If you need to keep ice for a week, yeah. We just bought one as a gift for a friend (I don't own one myself) and the build quality is superb. They seem very durable, and are rated bear-proof if you care about that sort of thing. It is a high price of admission for a cooler, though. It's overkill for tailgating, but if you go camping/paddling for multiple days they are probably worth it bc they really do keep things cold for a crazy length of time

It looks like something I'd design, if asked to create a high quality polymer ice chest. They really thought it through.

I think they are grossly over priced for what it is. My Coleman Xtreme can hold ice for 5 days no problem and I only paid $50 if I remember correctly. Thats with a bunch of guys reaching in for a beer every 20 minutes!
I havent owned a Yeti, but I just cant seem to grasp how it could be THAT much better than my Coleman.

Ideally I'd like to see a side by side REAL WORLD comparison test before shelling out that much cash on a cooler.

I just bought one recently because I had an REI gift card. Honestly, I would have rather bought the Pelican cooler because I like the latches on it better than the rubber straps on the Yeti. I don't think you are going to find anyone complaining about a Pelican or Yeti cooler other than the price.

I really wanted a Pelican, Yeti, or Esky for the cool factor, but reason won out and I got a couple Coleman Xtreme Marine coolers. The marine versions are white like they should be and have stainless steel hinges, not the crappy plastic ones. The Pelican, etc. are heavy, expensive, large, and are only needed in specific uses where one should probably consider a fridge.

I know this is about ice chests, but I've got to mention the Engle 45. That bugger is tough. I broke the strap holding it down a while back with no trim installed, and it slammed against the body hard enough to require a throttle adjustment.

It really hit hard, and then tumbled about for quite some time until I had a chance to stop. Luckily the other straps holding a few cases held, and kept it in the back.

It still works fine. I thought I'd killed the damned thing.

Cheers,

I'm sure some guys like pro fisherman could justify paying that much . I think you could put $1500 worth of red snapper in one easy . It's gonna have to keep ice for long weekend to be worth it to me . If it really does that better I would think about it .

I definitely do not need a fridge. I'm not going on any 'expeditions' that will require me to go more than 5 days without access to ice. I guess its heavy, but I've never owned any other large cooler, so I have no point of reference.

I have a Yeti. Hands down the best cooler ever. I like it better than the Grizzly due to the handles. Likewise, I like it better than the Pelican because if the handles. It does not have the capacity of the old skool Coleman metal coolers from the 80's, but holds ice longer. Better latches, too. Great coolers.

No I wish I had a yeti , I think the Coleman extreme is smarter . Heavy is kind of a problem . And I'm a cheap fucker first , then after that I like cool shit . Jymmie / would it float even though its heavy ? I would hate to loose one to the bottom of a lake .
