Anyways, my Walwart has one of those 65qt Pelicans. I'll be tempted if it hits clearance, except it weighs 48 lbs, empty.

I know that's a heavy ass cooler . But I figure something that big is going to get carried by 2 people anyway . If I can't find it I'm going to get the Yeti 45 . The 55 might be too tall to fit in some of the places I would put it . I'm never going to have to stand a bottle of wine in it upright , I hate wine .

The Coleman extreme is such a pile of shit. I have one almost brand new someone can have if they want it. The hinges are broken and the lid falls off all the time, but it's free.

They make different Xtremes Dan. Post up a photo so people know what it is. I've had mine 3 seasons now it it's just like the day I got it.

You're rolling around comparing a Coleman to a Yeti ( which is fucking funny as hell ), yet I'm the cheap fuck? Dumbass.

Yea, I bet those Filipino kids make a great little cooler, and coozie, and tumbler.

Here we go again, buyer beware is all I'm saying. My Coleman works well and is a 1/3 the cost. I'm not a bandwagon guy though except when it comes to the rail on my Glock.....

Aside from what said going forward it just depends if you'd rather dump $400 on one cooler fine, or dump $100 on a cooler and save the other $300 for something else. Like a Yeti Sticker for the back of my pick-up. I see those all the time now as well. I know. I'll get a Salt Life and Yeti sticker and place them adjacent to each other. Then I'll have everyone beat.

I have had my yeti 35 qt since 2007 (I think). People that don't own them knock on them all the time and honestly I could GAF if anyone thinks they are gimmicky or unnecessary.

Is it worth the money? Probably not, I got mine as a gift from my sister and her husband.

I will say that 8 years later it hasn't broken, not that I abuse it but I do use it.

Do I need to hold ice up to a month? No, but it is great to pack in food when I head to the deer camp for a few days. Up until recently I was doing traveling sales and I kept it in my car and it always had ice in it. I would pack lunch, drinks, etc. and put in a bag of ice every few days during the summer. The point is, I have used it more than I ever thought I would.

We use it whenever we go diving for the day and it doesn't have to leave the boat and its great to pack food in.

The times I DON"T grab it is when it would be used for a beer cooler, tailgating because I don't want to leave it at the tailgate during the game, or in any scenario I would have to carry that thing more than a couple hundred yards.

My brother in law has a 65qt he got for free from a captain he worked for on a charter rig, and he got a 45 qt from an ex. I have a friend that has a 50 qt.

IMO I like the 45 qt size as an all around cooler. I can quarter out a deer in there, it will hold about 4-5 whole geese and a bunch of winged out ducks plus ice, its plenty big for a day of spearing flounder. It is also just small enough for one bro to carry it full.

The 35 qt is much easier to carry when full and has never left me wanting more space but on a few occasions.

The 50 qt is kind of an awkward size but it does have the benefit of being deeper.

I love the 65 qt for going on the boat all day. If I buy another it will be a 65 qt.

Some other brands to consider:

Orca - A friend of mine packed this bad boy with steaks, ice cream, etc sealed it up with tape sailed from Pensacola area to the bahamas and his ice cream was frozen when he got there. They are just as pricey but good coolers.

Pelican - I am not a fan of the latches, I feel like if you threw it in the truck and one of those latches was undone it would rip off in a heartbeat. It's why I am partial to the rubber throws on the yeti.

On a budget I would check out Bayou Ice Box. They are out of the Mobile area. I don't think they are quite the same quality as yeti and others but for a roto molded cooler its hard to beat the price.

To whoever said they had some friends get a day out of their ice...I know you've heard it all the time, but the key is to give it the sacrificial bag of ice, set it out overnight in winter, use block ice or frozen bottles of water, or dry ice. The other key is to never crack it open unless you need to.

I have been able to stick it in a walk in freezer overnight a few times and it greatly improves ice retention.

This was my only point. And mine was made in the US.

I didn't read your post before I sent mine. But now that I have, for as much use as I've gotten out of a roto molded cooler I can justify the price.

I bought an xtreme a couple of years ago and it didn't last any longer than the regular model. The xtreme holds ice much better than a normal cooler for sure, but it's still plastic and not as durable as a poly one. The durability of the yeti is what I have been extremely pleased with.

It was said a few posts up, most people are never without access to ice for more than 24 hours and realistically neither am I. Personally I just like that I have had the thing for 8 years and used it regularly and I imagine it will still be around in another 8 years.

This is the Discoweb I love!

Let's see, a little homoeroticism, lotsa bragging about spending more on a cooler than most spend for a week's worth of food and a little bit of assholery.

The next time I get into my Defender to take my Krieghoff out grouse hunting, while dressed in Filson/Orvis clothing, while telling time with my Panerai, I'll be sure to take my Yeti cooler to keep my bottle of Laphraoig scotch cold-LOL

(no, I don't own a Defender, Krieghoff, a single piece of Filson or Orvis clothing, but I do wear a Rolex, have a few Brownings-but no superposeds and prefer a good APA over scotch)

WTF is up with those stupid Salt Life stickers anyway? Keep seeing them all over the place, kind of like OBX stickers. To me, they just scream a redneck on the beach...

P.S. Need to order a third rail and 7th light for my Glock. Also, Vine Yard stuff screams uber douchebaggerry...
