If you guys want to go in mid-April and that gets us the most participants, I'm fine with that. I can't go any later than that, though, because my wife will be 8 months pregnant by that point.

I suspect that this is the last trip for a while for me. I want to make it count.

Chris, let' nail down a date. The Easter Jeep Safari for 2012 is March 31 to April 8 (Easter). If you are still thinking a Thursday through Monday trip, how about Thursday April 12 to Monday April 16?

It would give us enough time after EJS that we hopefully wouldn't run into too many jeepers, and for the people who do have family commitments for Easter, they could still go.

If you don't want to do a Thursday through Monday trip that's cool too. I'm open for everything. Just need to plan so I can arrange stuff at work.

I have a Detroit to pull and get serviced, a ham radio to install and a muffler to replace.

I'd also love to install one of those hot water showers that run off the engine coolant. Ben, you listening? I'm still waiting for your parts list. :)

One of these parts is also good to getting hot coffee in a small fraction of time it normally takes. I'm eyes and ears, too!

Showers? We don't need no stinkin showers!

Just ordered up a set of rock sliders, rear fuel tank skid, and stainless steel rear cargo door panel from Columbia Overland. I'll see if I can find some time to finally install a fold-up rear work table on the inside door panel. Maybe I can also find time to swap out the rear door lock actuator and windshield wiper motor that have been sitting on my workbench for nearly 2 years...

You'd be amazed at what a stock Disco can do. I don't know how crazy Chris is planning on getting but usually the only problem with bone stock is that the front or rear bumpers scrape on rocks because they hang so low. Sometimes a bumper endcap can get hung up and get yanked off. A little planning, careful driving, and smart spotting go a long way to preventing that though.

Looks like an old buddy of mine will be flying out to AZ from Virginia to join us on the trip. He & I used to camp a lot over 12 years ago back when I had the 96 Disco. He had a 2003 D2 for a while back in Virginia.

I think you'll be fine so long as you have solid recovery points front and rear. That way, we can always snatch or winch you if you get hung up.

Where we go depends on the mood of the group. If everyone is up for some serious driving, we'll explore the canyon country between Bluff, UT and Hite, UT. I've been pouring over USGS topos and Google Earth and I've found a number of roads that look interesting. There are some neat trails out to the old uranium mines that put you on top of mesas or back in little box canyons. It's tough to say how passable they are, we'd just have to give it a shot. For example, I found this trail down into Moqui Canyon. I found a post on ADVrider that--I think--has pictures of this trail. They couldn't make it up on bikes but maybe we could. Who knows.

If you guys are game for crazy shit like this, you know I'm down.

That said, if everyone just wants to chill out and do more camping and hiking than driving, we can spend a couple of days in Cedar Mesa exploring the ruins and maybe head towards Lake Powell or Beef Basin for the last day or two.
