Elias - is SO confused. but that hasnt stopped me before. conal lets talk about this trip.

Elias, this is a trip I would very much like to make, the long suffering RR should be up for it, apart from work my biggest problems will be explaining to my 13yr old that I am doing a trip without him, and what to do with the dog.

I just got it on the work calendar. Muger, if you want to caravan down I'm sure we can arrange to meet up in Tremonton where 15 comes in to 84. Jason, if you want to caravan, I'll let you get a couple hours head start since you'll be in the diesel and catch up to you around Burley.

Yeah, no shit. Since I changed the gearing, it is a little slow.

I know some troopers between here and there though. I might tell them there is a guy in a lifted green Land Rover in need of a cavity search. That would buy me some time..:D

To the relief of everyone, I will not be attending.

I have no doubt there are some people that feel that way Rob. You end up being that guy people just aren't sure about. "Is he gay?" "Why is he drinking Juicy Juice from a drink box?" "Is that a woman's jacket?" "Oh yeah he's that guy that smells his finger all day because he wiped his ass 8 hours ago."

a) It's Jesus Juice not Juicy Juice
b) I shit more often that 8hr intervals, so you must be thinking of someone else.
c) I only smell the finger if, and that's a big if, I get shit on it. But with the proliferation of the availability of portable handi whipes, that's a once a year event at most.
d) If a woman's jacket fits and happens to be on clearance, I'm not letting something as subjective as gender ruin a good deal. Besides the women's stuff has a much more tailored cut.

man, that's too bad. Is it because you don't want to drive all the way, or time's wrong?

I'll be attending a wedding in Yosemite later in the year and I'm going to build a two week vacation around that. Just no time for the April trip.

So this sounds awesome, and I'd love to come. I would like some clarification as it all evolves, and dont want to come off sounding like a dick:

You would need a prep level to be defined, even if that means stockers ok, or not..read on

I love moab, that is fun till its doing field repairs on my back for other folks trucks-for them not prepping for what can be demanding terrain. broken shocks are too common, esp OMEs..

the potential consideration or problem when built trucks roll with stockers is that stockers can break on stuff like cliffhanger, metal masher, steelbender, moab rim, spike, (one of my favs and a great run for a dweb group!)

I realize stuff breaks, but stock stuff breaks more often
it can put a drag on a run when there are more difficult/fun trails at play

thats not to say a trip to topo the world in a group of stockers isnt a blast, or fins area, either so dont get me wrong- both are awesome, but it would be cool to clarify whats on the agenda, perhaps easy trails days 1& 2, harder stuff 3& 4? just thinking out loud as I consider the commitment, the fun factor and the best way for all to have a great time, budget vacation time, etc. I wanna come play!

as much as I want to drive up for the good times, camaraderie, etc, its also good to know what to expect..not trying to be difficult, but depending on whats happening I can bring a little stuff or alot of stuff(read, full impact tool or hand tools only), if its gonna be a group mixed with stockers, the trail choices change a bit and thus my breakage potential gets that much lower..

I'd love for those who reside there show me new stuff thats off the map or not on the usual visit moab list, but if we're doing 'system trails' in moab, the difficulty can get over stock comfort level quick. Winching is an option, but lets keep it from geting winch-festy?

if the run is gonna be tougher trails, and fun lines, and keeping breakage to a minimum in moabs more funner trails, you may want to consider no factory diffs, since they break so often, even on stock un modded trucks, ideally a locker+cdl, and diff protection and functional sliders, that helps. If youre locked, either have HD axles or carry your own spares AND your own tools. Have something other than stock bumpers? Your own winch? or is that asking for too high a prep level?

or if its a trip thats gonna be lots of stockers, thats fine, I just wanna know..I'd be in either way

More important than stock vs non-stock is ego or non-ego. That seems to be the root cause in most of the trail breakage I have seen over the years.

Gem, this isn't going to be some Moab meet-n-greet. We may pass through but aren't meeting to "do trails" per se. At least I'm not.

I'm thinking of this as a point A to point B trip with camping, food, hiking etc in between.
