I first pulled the half shafts first because I thought that is what I broke. Pretty much same on the disco except with the alloy wheels you need to take them off first to get to the half shafts. I then pulled the propshaft so in case whatever was broken in the diff jammed or siezed I would not...
Yes that was the concensus about locked cdl hurting the transmission. I don't believe in coincidences though. Never had a problem with the trans., drove it for 2 1/2 weeks with locked cdl and then it started delay shifting. Fluid is good. Could be a combination of a minor problem I didn't...
Buddy, yep that was me. Thanks for pulling out the trailer on Sunday. Yea, I got a used diff and replaced it about 2 1/2 weeks later. I pulled the axles and the rear prop shaft and drove around in front wheel drive. I am currently rebuilding the old diff for shits and giggles.
I don't...
Thansk for all the info. I am driving in front wheel drive. I finally got the peg off the new diff flange, put the new diff in, axles in and ran out of daylight. Hopefully tomorrow I will have everything in tomorrow and this problem will be gone.
2 oil changes ago. Probably about 6-8k. I had no problems with the trans. and for the past 2 weeks it has been driving fine. Got in this morning and that is when I noticed the problem as I was driving to work. Fluid is nice a pink.
The used diff I got had the 3-flange rotoflex pinion...

Stock Gears
235/85 16 tires
Broke diff, removed rear axle, removed propshaft, locked cdl
It has been two weeks, transmission just started to feel like I am starting off in 4 gear for a second or two and then goes back to normal. Sometimes I step on gas and there is a delay in...
The way I understand the description on the website the screw ends are pointed and they register in a matching countersunk hole in the pad. All of which is held in place between the crown gear and taped screws. Just a guess though
Thanks. The ashcroft pegging on the diff is interesting. I might have to play around and try to do it myself. Will probably end up of purchasing a used one and then rebuild the one I broke for experience.
I can't afford to change the ratio in the both diffs right now and buy an arb for the...
Nope didn't make it up without the gas which is why I broke the diff. (too much at wrong time) I made it up both hills on the east river trail, had lunch and then decided to do the hill climb. Live and learn.
Did it on the Hill Climb by the Causeway on Friday Afternoon at MAR. I was taking it easy on the gas because I just put on 235/85 and didn't want to break anything until I saved some money for upgrades.
I was thinking about ARB and I am waiting to get a price from GBR on Monday. Also...
Blew my rear diff on a '98 Disco:
-Crown and Pinion Shot
-Housing Cracked
-Diff gears missing teeth
-Cross Shaft in 4 pieces
Is it worth sourcing the parts and rebuilding it? Is it worth the time?
I was able to pick up a crown and pinion set for $60 at MAR and I can get the rest for under $400.
