    D2 Transfercase into a D1?

Cross-drilled LT230 input gear? I know we bought one for our son's LT230 in his Defender, late D1's will have it, but worth checking. Peter

    D1 Key Blanks

If there's something available over here that you need and cannot get shipped, give me a shout and I'll get it collected and shipped over. We are coming over to CA in February, will have Business Class luggage weight allowances so could bring some bits over then and post USPS/Fedex when we get...

    Picking Up A New Toy

Mostly throttle-governed in Europe, Hit and Miss engines were more popular in the USA and most that we see over here are imports. Carburettor design flourished in France and the UK, and small engines benefited from accurate fuel metering and constant speed. This engine is throttle governed. Peter

    Picking Up A New Toy

It would have been used to drive farm machinery as steam gradually got replaced by internal combustion. Threshing wheat, pumping water, cutting chaff for feed and so on. One engine could be moved around a farm to perform different duties. Peter

    Picking Up A New Toy

Well, it's got four wheels at least! :) My D2 is in having some laning bodywork damage rectified, so we used Philip's D2 to take the trailer down to Bracknell to collect my latest engine. It's a 1927 Ruston & Hornsby 6hp AP (Agricultural Paraffin) engine. The seller was also a Landie owner...

    Will an LR3 tow a stock D1 on a u-haul trailer?

We have collected a 109" Series 3 2.6litre, and two Discovery 2 V8's behind our D2 with no problems, but tyre pressures and balance/position of the vehicle on the trailer is fairly critical. Picture is our son's D2 V8 on the trailer, we've bought another since then, as you do :) Peter

    Diagnosing overheat on D2

Shouldn't be any scale in there if the correct OAT coolant is used. Peter

    Diagnosing overheat on D2

Just a thought, have you thought about checking the air bleed pipe from the driver's side of the radiator top and the bleed needle in the header tank that it runs to? I had a piece of limescale in mine that blocked off the air escape and it did make a difference. Our radiator is original 1998...

    Bit of Weekend Relaxation

I built the big one from scratch: http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/DBTrailer/DBTrailer1.htm Philip did the Sankey Widetrack (ex-army trailer) conversion with my guidance. Peter

    Bit of Weekend Relaxation

We went to a small Landy forum get together last weekend in the Leicestershire countryside. The road-going D2 wasn't really outfitted for wet and rutted laning, but we only get stuck once and it was fun, 6 hours of it. The big trailer and Philip's Sankey Widetrack conversion were in use, the...

Speedi sleeve for rear main crank seal

+1 on that. Years ago when I was working for a Scania dealership we had a similar problem on the DS11 engines, cured temporarily by fitting the seal in a slightly different position in the bell housing. Longer term a new seal was used with a different material. Peter

disco 2 rear side windows dead

The IDM is a small PCB that is embedded into the main printed wiring board on one side, I didn't pull both covers off this one but I seem to remember that there are two boards sandwiched together in there: My black D2 is Nov 98 build, one of the very early ones. Peter

Check Fuse 13 in the passenger compartment fusebox, there is a relay in there as well, but I believe that it is a fixed one and not replaceable. There are six fixed relays and four replaceable. Try the yellow relay marked 'RRWIND', this text is moulded into the plastic fusebox case, not the...

    Another Discovery 2 V8

Continuing with parts acquisition, new rear floor rubber mat arrived yesterday, have done a deal with a breaker for the floor carpets, mine are soaking and mouldy. Miriad small items, plus I did buy a D2 toolkit on fleabay from Texas, cheaper than I could get it in the UK! $16.50 including UPS...

    Brake Job Cost?

Prices in the UK are better but shipping to the USA kills it. We buy just discs and Mintex pads, never had to change anything else apart from the bolts that hold the calipers to the stub axle, use them twice then renew. Peter
