As long that the nail didn't go into the plates it should be fine. I've used a a high grade silicone like ultra copper so seal hole's in battery cases before then ad acid after the silicone sets up for 24-48 hours. remove the nail if it is still in it. Napa caries battery acid.

check for plugs in the bowl usually lead may nee to take carb apart Gm carbs where bad at leaking. I use JB weld fast setting on the plugs clean the area with emery cloth and put a coating of epoxy over them
