Consider this: I bought the older version of the EW3 strap from Expedition Exchange back in 2001 or 2002. I also purchased shackles, rings, etc. from them at that time. After 8 or more years of use and abuse, the strap was still fine....until I recently shredded the end of it pulling a neighbor...

Bottom line, it's LU's property to do with as they wish. Something a little smaller (as in not half a mountain-side full of land-scape boulders) would have been a little more refined and tasteful. FWIW - the school has been very gracious with the property, keeping it open to the public...
