Finally getting around to reading more in this thread.

The trail network was extensive so I appreciate the need for guides. We would have been lost.
I've seen this mentioned several times as to why guides are needed. I just don't get it. Are maps really not available?

Keep reading, Tom.

It's just a guideline of the property. The trails are on the land, but you access many of the trails from the highway. It's not a good place to set people free and say "have fun" like at Pearls Pond, due to the fear of people ending up where they're not supposed to be and pissing off the neighbors.

Well, I assumed maps, and trails, could be marked. On the other hand, I do know that some people aren't interested in following directions. Which, as usual, ruins it for those of us who do.

If you have been to MAR at Pearls Pond you realize what a benifit Guides can be. I don't understand the issue with Guides especially on trails you are not familiar with. I know we would not have found half the trails we ran at Oak Ridges without the Guides, who were great by the way.

I know some had an issue that thet drove Jeeps but it was fun to have them tell you what couldn't be done and then shocked when you walked through it. Even our own Mr Bailey told up how 4 of 6 jeeps rolled using this one line and several of us walked up it one with ATs no less

I think a few people were just looking for a reason to complain which ultimately effected attendance. Hopefully those who didn't attend will realize what they missed and will be there next year.

It is no longer a question of whether we like the venue. The question is why the 2008 MAR cost as much as it did. I've seen the numbers and it is ridiculous.

What has cost got to do with it when you're putting on *the* premier LR event in NA? I say, spare no expense, spend all you've got, and more! I'm sure there are plenty of "event" loans available out there for such an affair.

Why not just raise the prices for vendors and members?

Most of the trails are accessed off public roads through locked gates so the guides at the front and back of of the line of trucks would open and close the gates for the groups of trucks. Some of the trails loop back on themselves so the guides keep everyone moving the right way (some of those trails were just narrow paths through tight woods - no place for an oncoming vehicle to pass so one way traffic was inevitable). The guides that led the rides I ran did a great job and seemed interested in seeing how the Rovers performed.

Besides how many Rover owners are truly capable of reading a map,,,,,

Well, the rally was fun...but...the spending involved was a squandering of assets that should belong to the membership. I understand the total event cost was roughly 5 times what was brought in via registrations.

That would probably have to be brought forth at the ABM and voted upon by the membership............the "membership"...........you know, "the membership"..........like "the membership" that voted for Oak Ridge in the first place.

In other words, the Good Ol Boys will never see to it.

I think, though, that if you're a member of ROAV, you can write and request a financial report. I say "think" because who knows what ROAV will tell you, but any other organization would give you this type stuff. But you have to request it.

Hmmm, I find that hard to believe. Registration was what, $100.00 or there abouts? And they claimed to have 339 trucks, one more truck than the National Rally?

That's $33,900 in registrations for the trucks alone, no dinners, shirts, etc...

Oh, but some people got those discounted tickets. I don't know how to figure that in....

But anyway, $33,900 X 5 is $170,000. I cannot even think to believe that ROAV spent this much money on the event.

I was thinking more along the lines of $70,000-$75,000. But I could be way off....We'll find out soon enough, I guess.

Okay more like 4 times. I heard 240 registrations and 106K in costs.

Still, seriously over the top.
