Does ORE offer any other area on the grounds for camping?

Seems like being in the 'infield' could get pretty hot if the weather turned like it has in the past?

Oh, and what did most people do after 5pm? Dinner on Friday night and the never-ending auction took place as usual I guess...?

You could rent a tent through ROAV for your group, much like Philly does every year.

after 5? drink and shoot the shit.

So you offering to setup and run MAR next year Dan??

Nope. I have no plans to re-join ROAV at this time. I gave my $.02 on this event and it was pushed to the side. The BOD's lied to their members and were genuinely dishonest in their answers to the public.

My personal information has been sent to every BOD, and hard to tell where else, and ended up getting posted on a public forum for everyone to see, I.E. address, phone number, etc.. It's not that this information can't be found on the Internet anyway, but a ROAV BOD thought it would be a good idea to post this information directly from a ROAV listing. That's not cool.

(....and if you attended MAR 2007, I have your personal information as it was sent to me by a ROAV BOD.... So who else has it, too?)

These are all things I do not support and I want nothing to do with any of it. You can't blame me for that.

So all of the moronic "what are you doing to change it" is just lame bullshit.

I agree with Galen the Trail guides were excellent, at least the ones we had. The trails were not extreme but they were more than most would want. There were some issues mainly with staff attitude, and some logistice but a great first attempt

I've heard varying stories about the guides. Everything I read here, and other BBS's, has been fairly positive in regards to the personalities of the guides.

But out of the four people I've talked to face-to-face who were at MAR, they tell a different story.

They're not saying that every guide was a dickhead, but I understand that there were a few dickheads in the group. We'll leave it at that, I guess.

The end result was the smallest MAR in at least 6 years, probably longer.

You can define "smallest" as unsuccessful, although I'm sure ROAV would disagree.....despite their original estimations of 500+ trucks.

ROAV can blame this on gas prices, new venue, "change"....what ever. Yet, this did not seem to affect the National Rally attendance. The SCARR event grew in attendance, too.

It may very well have been a "great first attempt", but next year will be very telling if ROAV chooses to keep the same location.

Good questions. There were maybe three areas for camping. The big field never really filled up. Was not too hot, great views.

After 5:00 - well, four of us stood on the teeter totter, trying to figure out who weighed the most. Get the picture...?

We only checked out the bluegrass band Thursday night.

Being in the travel industry I can tell you for sure that travel in general is way off. I would say 20% is a conservative estimate. So for attendance to be "off" would not be that much of a surprise. Especially those driving great distances in a vehicle that gets, wel,,,l poor MPG's.

From what I read MAR still attracted more attendance than the National Rally. Keep in mind the VA4x4 annual drew 238 I believe. So Rover exclusive events just do not draw the attendance that other's do. Now that ROAV has joined United 4Wheel Drive Assoc. The ORE may be alittle more accessible to Roav members in the area. Other events and workdays have happened pretty regularly in the past.

The trailguides did get a short briefing on what to expect from the Rover products. Just like we all had to see some of that technology in action before we could appriciate it so did they. After all, the Jeep wrangle has just as much tech in it as most newer Rovers. But I doubt many of the Rover crowd would do well if asked to lead a bunch of Jeeps around. In some cases the guides knew more about the Rovers than the drivers themselves.

If anyone said a guide was a dick then I'll bet there was a good reason.( Hey some people just rub one another the wrong way no matter what.) Like safety issues, and just generally not paying attention. I witnessed that several times. People putting themselves in harms way and not paying attention. Also general stuff like throwing cigarette buts on the ground.

After 5pm socializing, eating, beer consumption, and Laughing until I just about fell out of my chair. Priceless!

This is getting kinda old. MAR was fun at ORE. I've got a few suggestions for improvement, but it was worth the trip and the money. Looks like the Cove was fun, too. It seems the people that wanted to be at each were there and everybody had a good time.

This is worth repeating.

I don't really care if it's getting old or not. I'm making my point that people such as Mike Mason plainly just outright lied about the venue. That's what started the entire "flame".

I told everyone who read it that ORE would be fun. People like us would have had fun sitting in the GWNF around the camp fire. It does not take bands, badass trails, Jeeps, beer, or black tie dinners for us to have fun.

But what one thing at ORE will pull you back next year? I have a feeling the only thing people will come up with is the fellowship of other Rover owners. If there was something else, it would have been posted by now. If you make a check list, you'll count more complaints than complements. Sorry, that's just the way the ball rolled, I'm just pointing it out.

I heard about the sly comments that were being made thoughout MAR about me and the Cove from ROAV BOD's and planners. Even the comments on Tuesday. And that's fine. That just tells me that my voice was heard and apparently it must have kicked a few people right in the balls or they would have never said what they did. But I don't care who you ask, you will not find one person who heard me say anything negetive all weekend about MAR. One vendor wanted to know the whole story, so I told him, and that's it. I'm sure he got another story from ROAV while at MAR, but I have the documents to back my shit up if it were really a big deal to him.

So, I don't care if it gets old. I just like pointing out how misleading ROAV BOD's were. ;)

Yeah, Other Rover event's around the Globe were down 20% too, huh. Yeah.

MAR had near 400 trucks in what, 2004? I don't know what they had this year, I hear 205 and I've hear 250. Either way, MAR is loosing ground and other venues are gaining participants. Can you not figure out why, John?

WHAT? ROAV joined United? LOL. Oh, that's great news. Hahaha. That's almost as great as joining VA4WDA.

This comment is just dumb.

That's like me saying I know more about a trocar than you do and you saying you know more about a travel plan than I. No one cares.

You're still having a hard time separating the Jeep at a Rover event thing.

Well, they never said anything about the guides throwing butts on the ground or how unsafe they were. They just said a few guides were dickheads.

After 5pm socializing, eating, beer consumption, and Laughing until I just about fell out of my chair. Priceless!

Why wait till 5?

Oh, that's right. You guys were on a schedule. lol

I couldn't agree more. I am sure if there were no guides , a fellow Rover rider would have helped me, but when I screwed up, the tail guide called on the CB and corrected me as I was maneuvering the obstacle.

For us the Cove was just too far this time around being that some of us had family commitments, it was a short drive from Richmond which was our primary factor. We'll hit the Cove next year for something different.

Were you invited to the Cove?

Maybe they should have their event at Oak Ridge again this year.
