It was just a dude in a ditch that they happened across. They weren't testing the Evoque. They don't purport themselves to be recovery experts, or any experts for that matter. They're just automotive journalists. I like their Ike Gauntlet videos, they do a pretty thorough job trying to test and compare the trucks fairly.

I disagree. It's "the way they said it" and "what they didn't say" that is a recurring issue. I sound like a woman there... Not helping Ridgeline's case at all....

They aren't journalists; more hobbyists with good presentation. There's a distinct "reality show" vibe coming through the monitor on that channel, and quite a bit of dramatization.

I still find it entertaining, though, and I don't believe they are biased (as they have been accused before). I jut think they don't consider the consequences of what they say sometimes, and should brush up on their research before and after tackling the review of a vehicle.

It's not just them; it's a problem with reporting in general these days, but with the amount of exposure they have they should be doing a bit more exposing.

I watch their show like I do Linustechtips. It's fun, but I never take what he says as complete or factual, even though he presents himself as a serious outlet for technology reporting and review. He's not.

He just doesn't know it.

Cheers,

Kennith

This is the guy that collaborates with them giving his own impressions. Most of what I see people doing with their larger trucks is towing and hauling toys, mowers, small tractors, and comparable static loads. It's a perfectly mid-size task. Drive what you want, but I think Honda is trying to tell us something.

Seems Mr. Truck got the message, and just tried taking it out and using the damned thing with an open mind.

Somewhere in the middle is where the entirely drama-free and anticlimactic journey around a mountainous landscape with an entire weekend of gas-powered trail riding fun along for the ride starts. Plenty of room left in the vehicle for all the camping gear you'd need to enjoy the nights outdoors in Expo style.

What else do you need out of a mid-size truck? It would be nice if it had a more traditional AWD system, but I honestly just don't think it matters. It's hard for me to get over, but I'm willing to try. I'm more concerned about disappearing buttons and knobs (mentioned in the video) than I am about Honda not developing an entirely new longitudinal platform for a vehicle that seems for all the world to avoid needing it entirely.

Ten points for the awesomely designed trailer, as well. I want one of those.

Cheers,

I follow the Mr. Truck channel too. I like his content, I just wish he had some semblance of the production value present on the TFL channels. His audio is usually atrocious.

As I was driving today on I90, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a vehicle behind me and thought 'fuck, that thing is hideous. oh shit, it's a Ridgeline'. I got my phone out and took a quick pic, but unfortunately I couldn't get it from the front.

Honestly from this view, it's not bad at all. It's kind of like when you see a woman from behind and think hmm, not bad and then she turns around and oh fuck.

I saw one over at West World here in Scottsdale and I almost pulled my truck alongside to take a pic. Then I realized that my Disco would be in a pic with a Ridgeline and I just couldn't do that to the old boy.

Maybe the Discovery 5 and Ridgeline thread should be merged. We're talking about two vehicles with very similar capabilities and looks.

Now now. I would venture to say the traction control on the D5 is vastly superior to that of the Ridgeline. I've seen an Evoque do extremely well in a lot of offroad conditions, miles better than that Ridgeline did in that video.

So was the Pinto at one time. Then the Maverick. Lets not forget about the Vega. Still does not make them cool cars.

There is NOTHING "fun to drive" about those cars. Maaaaaaaaaaybe a Maverick X and only because it can shake the rear end loose. I'll give you this: Boxters and Miatas are "chick cars" but they can be damn fun to drive! (Actually, I'd rake a well-sorted Miata over a damn Boxter!)

Wait. Didn't you have a late C3 Corvette? Those are cool if you like fat chicks, above ground pools and the band Winger.

Thanks, Garrett. Guess what's going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day:

Yeah, when I was 18. It was a fun car. Had a 383-stroker making about 450hp. I had it about the time the Subaru WRX STI came out and all the ricers thought they were fast. That and the Honda Prelude. This was also about the time low-riders, neon lights, tweed interiors, and cruising the strip was cool.

I'd buy another Corvette if it would make it up my driveway. But it would be a 1963 split window. No love from me for the C4-C6 generations. The C7 is a different animal and I secretly kind of like it, but I wouldn't buy one.

Shame on all those people for having fun. Did you think your Corvette was fast, too?

It was fast in a straight line. It ran 8's foot brake and pump gas in the 1/8th. It didn't come in until 3600'ish RPM's. With 373's is was slugish off the line, but I could smoke about anything at a 30MPH rolling start on the street. Course, this was in a day when Corvette, Mustang, Porsche, etc... were building some pretty low HP automobiles. A C4, Fox body, or 944 was no contest. It was fast, though. Way too fast for an 18 year old.
