Someone pointed out yesterday (either here or over on LandRoversOnly.com) that the Lemon Law might apply. I looked into it and I think it might, but if so I only have until roughly 7/10 to make a claim, so I'm feeling pressed for time to get some estimated repair numbers together and over to the dealer.quote]

Thats a very progressive law. Seems to good to be true for NY. Out here in Oregon the only law would be a gun.

Yep. I poked around at them on their lot. (It's more of a high security yard.) A lot of Rovers that are just parts donor cars and ones that supposedly would be future projects, then a few that were (supposedly) ready for sale.

By the way, if you are actually in Pittsburgh proper, then Staten Island is closer to 400 miles than 300 miles....not that this fact helps the situation any. But I have to ask, you keep referring to them as a "dealer". Are they actually a LR Dealer? or are they just a sales operation specializing in Rovers? (Go Steelers!)

It does not appear as though they are a franchised dealer as their website does not conform to the layout and content requirements of Land Rover NA.

The ladies with Brooks-Kushman will be contacting them soon enough, I'm sure. They seem to be aggressively pursuing action against anyone with the word Rover in the URL or company name.

Let's put it this way, they are a 'dealer' in the sense that they are a used car dealer, but they certainly don't have any actual affiliation LR. They just happen to specialize in Rovers...I think the only non-Rover for sale in their yard was a older Isuzu Trooper.

Didn't get to do the water pump last night 'cuz a friend showed up with an excavator and I had to build a retaining wall so he could move some dirt and widen my driveway. (Making more room for the Rover!) Heading out to try to put it on now though.

Any tricks or suggestions you guys use to make fitting the hoses easier? I suspect that the new coolant hoses are going to take longer than putting the water pump back on...

Not sure if this is true or not...but..they might not be a dealer, but by virtue of being in the business of selling cars, and selling more than a certain number of them (per state law) may either make them classified as a dealer, or require them to get a dealers license.

For some reason, I think I read somewhere that either in pa-va-dc-md or wherever it was, that if you buy and sell, or maybe it was just sell, more than 3 cars a year, you are a dealer.

I may be completely off though.

This sounds correct.

Having been in the Dealer Finance end of the business once (about 10 yrs ago), I can tell you that as of roughly 2000-2001, in PA you had to get a dealer's license if you sold more than 10 cars in a year. In the last few days I've read somewhere that in NY it is 3 cars...

The hose that goes from the thermostat to the water pump and expansion tank is likely a newer style than what came off. If it has a plastic "Tee", rather than the sidearm hoses welded together, there will be interference with the oil cooler lines. Apparently, the new hose was improved in '03 when they didn't have the oil coolers, thus there is some interference when putting the newer, improved hose on earlier trucks.

I use spray silicone, for good or bad.

No argument, a dealer's license is required, but I think we all know that I am trying to differentiate between a factory approved new car Land Rover "Dealer" and a johnny on the corner used car "dealer". The subtlety of the difference could be important here when it comes to responsibility to the "Land Rover" brand name. In other words, can LRNA be brought into it if it's one of their dealers. And despite our calling them "stealerships", they typically are alot more responsive to customer complaints that johnny on the corner. (I too was in the F&I trade at one time...Frank Fuhrer and associates in Pittsburgh!)

joining the party late... have you tried to just give the damn thing back? the fact that they "say" they'd repaired something and didnt might only be scratching the surface.

iirc there is a p/n split on vin for the hose, i even think there is a split between 99 and 01 sometime.

Not to get off subject but are those Rangie Wheels on your Disco? Aren't the Rangie Wheels Hub centric?

Yes. They are supposedly from a Range Rover. You'll have to forgive me for being a n00b, but I don't know anything about whether they're hub centric or not....

I know you've only driven it for 45 minutes but did you notice in vibes in the steering wheel?

A little, but nothing alarming...or at least not alarming until you started asking about it. ;)

FWIW, once it's running, I was planning to replace the wheels with either some 16" steel rims or stock DII wheels anyway though. I figure 19's are probably useless offroad, plus the tire choices are pretty limited...

I have only been able to find the later as all of the earlier ones supersede to the new one.

Had another of the "welded" hoses explode again last week. Brand new, old stock, genuine Land Rover. The only hoses I've seen fail have been genuine, go figure.
