hey guys thanks for keeping my thread going

disco kid
my most expensive trip was for cape buffalo my first of the big five dangerous game.
10400 was aprox total and was expensive because of the extra flight from RSA to zambia
10400 included everything. taxidermy , transfer fees , tips , everything.

all my other trips were never more than 7000 grand total with airfare , taxidermy and shipping of all finished taxidermy.
i basicly saved 3500 a year and returned to afrika every other year.
i never spent less than 17 days on any trip so keep in mind my daily fees for accomadations were the bigest part of the 7000 .the animals were fairly cheap as was taxidermy.

zambia i saved for three years skipping a year to make the big adventure.

next trip is rsa for leopard
then
Cameroon for Pygmy Elephant

life is short got to hunt and hunt and hunt
untill the last sunset

i dont know , its possible.
as a courtesy to my very good friend and Professional Hunter Rassie Erasmus i signed and allowed him to do what he liked with our photos to advertise his hunting adventures.
in 2001 (i think) i went to the Safari Club Convention in vegas where rassie did a photo presentation of our hunting adventures.it was real cool to have our photos on a screen for hundreds to see.
our Zambia trip was filmed very professionaly and we had a dvd made of our trip.
its a one hour video comprised of 50 hours of footage (i wish it was longer as there were so many exciting and dangerous moments)which was intended (unknown to me )as a production video to sell.
an adventure of a life time.

Rassie and myself.

Check out the bend in the horn on my blesbok, I like it. He was my first african animal, 200 yard shot.[/QUOTE]

yes very distinctive.
how could you not like it its your first african kill.
im suprised you got 200 yds from the looks of that land id say you were lucky to get that close.
blesbuck was my first also.
similar terain but taller grass.we crab walked through the grass to get close.

gemsbuck was my first choice also.i went into depression after killing this beautiful animal
it shed tears as it died,i almost did myself , a bit of humanity still left in me i guess. it took me about five minutes to get over it.
i also got scope eye on the first shot

What a wonderful sunset. I studied abroad one summer with a group and Dr. Jidlaph Kamoche (from Cape Town University- South Afrika). I hope some day soon to make it back to one of the most beautiful places on earth.

From these trips, is there anything that you are allowed to bring back (other than pictures)?

hey chic

i get back all the mounted heads or skins as trophies.everything is documented and permitted.
if i wanted i could bring back only the salted skins and have them mounted in the usa ,but the expense is 10 times the amount as in africa.
you are not allowed to bring back any meat.

yes its legal.
they are pygmy elephant that live in the deep jungles of Cameroon.
only Bow and Arrow are allowed to hunt with.
the carcass is done in a head mount with tusks and is legal as permits are issued for the elephant.
Cameroon is a French Colony
all my trips are reasonable expense wise as we do ruff it quite a bit.
we will most likely be driving from RSA to Cameroon to cut costs and carry alot of gear.
hopefully this trip will happen by 2010.
my buddy (rassie) i hunt with killed a bull elephant in early may 04 with a bow and arrow just prior to our Zambia trip.
at the age of twelve he (rassie) killed a charging female lion with a 45-70 rifle.
hes been around the bush a few times.

Scott,

Jim beat me to it, yes its legal and neccessary, elephants are turning some of areas of southern africa into deserts. Their feeding is quite destructive, 600 pounds or so a day of bark, brush and grass. One of my favorite quotes about africa is "The darkest thing about africa is the ignorance of it" Disney would like you to think of dancing warthogs and happy little lion families but africa is nature at her best and her best is cruel if you attempt to view it in human terms.

Chic,

Everytime I look up at my eland mount I remember the whole day our paths became one. We have things spread around the house.

BEAUTIFUL game room!!!!!!!!!!!
your wife let you display your stuff in the main house , good for her.
i had to rebuild my basement into a game room.my kids call it the room of death.
it has low ceilings so my big animals are at eye level.looks good though black leather couches with zebra and kudu skins.
i dont know where im going to put my buff though.i told the wife its going over the bed.
i wanted to by a lion skin with head (1500) but thought better of it as i didnt kill it myself.

Chic
if i may tell a little tusker story.
My first experience with elephant was driving into a bush camp (an overnite camp while passing through)when i saw the bush plowed 100 feet across.
i asked
Who brought a bull dozer all the way out here???
the guys laughed and explained it was elephant passing through.
the devastation was unbelievable , trees plowed over and roots dug up and rolled over for as far as i could see.

we got to camp.there were three huts two made from mud and grass one made from cinderblock and steel with tin roof.my two usa buddies each went for a grass hut.
i went for the block house.
i was asked why was i staying in block house with two beautiful huts available.
my reply
havnt you ever heard of the three little pigs??????
well theyall packed into my block house and sure as shit the tuskers came through that night and destroyed the compound.
they flattened a large pot like a pancake.it had leftover grits in it (i forgot what the africans call it)they squeezed it like an italian ice.
they uprooted the water pipes and broke a window on the land cruiser.
all while we watched from my block house safe and sound.
