This is where I was camping in Denali. I ended up leaving later that night bc of the rain. It is a cool campground and I recommend it.

So after getting rained out in Denali, I was able to make my way down to Anchorage before the sun set. Of course it was like 12:30am and it was still daylight. That was very bizarre to me. Trying to sleep while the sun was up was weird. The railroad track is just below my truck. This was about 2 blocks from downtown Anchorage.

This is Far North Rovers. It is an indy shop that the former service manager and tech started after the dealership shut down. I never had a good vibe with them. They swapped my battery and said that was my problem. Which it wasn't. When I went back the next day, they said I had to wait 2-3 days. I had the overwhelming feeling that they were going to fuck me as hard as they could. I ended up just leaving and going to another repair shop. I wouldn't recommend them at all.

da!m this is the longest thread i have seen in along time
all i have to say is im a sinner i am envious would love to take a trip like that the thread has been great cant wait to see pics. i have. been educated and entertained. CBR. I appreciate your solo motovation. it speaks to the dam cry baby mentality of alot of young americans and says lookbitches you can do something without a efn handout. Hail AMERICA:patriot:

Word up my brother. I'm glad you enjoyed the read. I never imagined my first post, which was like barely 2 sentences, would morph into a thread with 13,000 views. LOL. I will say the trip was a lot more manageable with the help of my boys of Discoweb. Even though I still would have been ok, it was nice to have ya'll to call when I needed some guidence. Discostew answered the phone every single time I called him. Mike in NC tracked my location just in case I had some "real" problems. So even though I was solo, I really had some back up. It was the trip of my life time. I felt the spirit of everyone who shared the same dream of taking on a journey of this magnitude. AK is a great place. I highly recommend doing it if you can, it did a lot of good for my soul. 11k miles and 33 days in the mountains has a cleansing effect on your mind.

As I slip back into the real world, I find myself longing for a road that takes 6k miles to get to the end. I would load up and leave in the morning to do it again....

Maybe on my next adventure some of you can join me. So start buying spare parts and saving your money, bc there will be another adventure....

The button to activate the HDC is right next to the fuel door button. You may have simply activated it by mistake, try cycling the HDC button.

I think this may have been the case. The HDC button is pretty close to the key on the D2. I must have bumped it with my knuckles when I removed the key, bc this little weird situation just went away the 3rd time I restarted it that evening.

Don't let her see that
She saw it and agreed that I'm happiest solo on the road. Karrie is very cool, which is why I married her 18 years ago. She understands that I have to get the fuck of La. and to the mtns or I turn into an asshole. She is an Executive, works her ass off, and makes money. If not for her, this trip wouldn't have been possible. I also think she is pretty hot at 43. This pic was the last time I cut my hair. I've been letting it grow. My hair was short like this my entire life up until recently.

half that only whet your appetite :)

Yeah, I was just getting warmed up when I hit Dawson Creek. I'm natural born nomad. I hate flying. I'll drive anywhere, as ya'll now know. LOL. I should have been a trucker. I wish there was a hwy to Europe.

So after Far North "fixed" my "dead" battery, I headed south from Anchorage to the Kenai Peninsula. Only 210 miles down to Homer, but it took 5.5 hrs with the low speeds and construction. Very pretty drive.

Homer beach. It was pretty cool to drive around on the beach. I was going to camp on it, but it was raining. I was also concerned about the tide. I wasn't sure how high it would get. So I went to the Homer Spit.

The Salty Dawg Saloon. I thought I was going to be in here all night. I was in the mood to pound some drinks. However, I walked in, had 1 Jack Daniels, left after 10 mins. This was a place where I really felt the "Lower 48 Hate". The "Fuck Exxon" shirt makes me laugh, bc all those hypocrites got in their trucks and drove home. Then in the am, they get on their boats and go to work. Why aren't they on horseback or bicycle and using sails instead of oil products??

I grew up where the first offshore well was drilled off the coast. Shit happens when drilling for oil. Been that way since the start. I have no ill will towards BP. I love oil and gasoline.

Since it was raining pretty good in Homer and still pretty early, like 7pm, I decided to head back up the peninsula towards Anchorage. I was going to try an find a camp spot along the Kenai River. It pretty much rained the whole way to Anchorage. So I just kept going. It stopped just south of Anchorage and I snapped this pic. This was along the Chickaloon Bay.

I've probably already said this, but I have enjoyed the trip report and pics very much.

I'm glad you took the D2.

My satellite radio hadn't worked right in a week, it is old. So I decided to buy a new one. It was late, like 12am and I found a 24hr Wal Mart in Wasilla. I went in and they didn't sell them. I later found out that they don't sell them at all in Alaska bc they don't work due to the extreme north position. So keep that in mind if go.

So after sleeping in the Wal Mart parking lot, I went back to that indy Rover shop. This was the day I said fuck them and chanced it to Calgary, which I already told ya'll about. I wanted to show ya'll this. I found this Land Rover Camper. It was a French couple who were doing the South America to Alaska thing. I actually saw them the day before on the Kenai Peninsula and waved. He was getting a new transmission.
