I guess the guy's I'm sitting with here in the airport who work for a couple of NASCAR race teams (who's reading this), building rear ends for race cars don't know anything...I'm stupid and don't have clue...unlike you who has done it all...get a fucking clue, people don't have them in FULL TIME 4 wheel drive truck s for a reason...you'll destroy the front end...but, like I said, I'm stupid...

another edit, never mentioned the TT in my D2(doesn't apply)...whatever. Please, go ask on pirate, guy's there have tried it all, you may get a more informative answer, with first hand experience...

The Pirate4x4 forum is the only place you'll get this one answered. This forum tends to toward the more moderate off-roader. People over there actually try far worse ideas than this on a Friday night just to amuse themselves.

Be prepared for abuse though. They're amusing but not very polite!

Sure Jeeps and Scouts, etc., run Detroits in front, they also usually have twin sticks on the transfer case so they can can switch into rear wheel drive so they can steer the sucker around a corner (no one wants to get out and unlock hubs in the middle of some tail drama on a steep hill). With a LR full time TC you don't have this option, or hubs. Get in the right situation you won't be turning the wheel very easlily. Best bet is an ARB (or some diff you can unlock) with a LR so you can steer it, or a Truetrack. Detroits will cause problems in the right situation and with a LR you're screwed as you have no option. You have no hubs and you can't disconnect the front drive like you can with a twinstick Dana 20 or 300. At least with an ARB you can turn it off, make your turn, then turn then lock it again.

While they do ratchet they don't when the gas is on, so picture yourself on rock, going up a hill, with the gas on, trying to turn sharply and the wheel won't turn.

must of been a different subject.

IMO I find dweb more helpful than pirate most of the time. Pirate doesn't have a huge land rover base so not as many people look at it, and most of the guys there are here too so.. we do got more mallcralwers though.

Just looked to see this still going
Unbelievable.

Listen, I'm sorry to have pissed off a few well meaning posters here. (as well as some asshats)
If you'll give me a few seconds, I'd like to explain something.

I own a large machine/fab shop and do a lot of design work.
I've designed and built drag bikes and several off road Jeeps.
I'm also the VP of the Midwest Chapter of NAXJA, a Jeep group with over 8500 users.
Here is a link to my latest project that I'm selling to give an example:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=571982

I'm not saying all this to brag, I'm trying to give a little background to explain where I'm coming from.
I'm not a genius, I'm not the last word on wheeling. I do, however, for the most part, know my shit.

I bought an '03 Disco for my wife recently. I was impressed enough to pick up a '97 Trek edition for myself.
That's what brought me to Discoweb.
One great thing about the internet is the ability to source large amounts of information quickly. The bad thing is that a large percentage of that info is bullshit.
The internet has this ability to turn people who know absolutely nothing into e-experts overnight, usually because they read some other know-nothing's bullshit and it quickly becomes fact.
Discoweb, unfortunately, has more than it's share of these types.
I'd always heard that LR owners, as a whole, seem to think they know far more than they do.
It's hard for me to argue.

There are a few people here who's opinion on higher tech stuff I trust; guys like Will Tillery, Alex and AKRover, who I believe know their shit.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are more, I just don't know them.
That's why, when it comes to higher end tech, like in this case, I don't ask for input from the general public.
I merely had an idea and wanted to see if anyone had tried it before.
If no one has, my next recourse is to go to sites like Pirate, NAXJA, and retailers like OK Offroad, Rovertracks, or Rock Ware. Not here.

Sorry, I have no interest in your opinion. Thats why I didn't ask for it, and, in fact, specifically asked you not to give it.
That's really what pissed me off, I just don't understand why people needed to post their unsolicited opinions so badly.
I didn't want to get into a big debate about Detoit lockers or whether this would work or not. It's an idea, good or bad. It may work, it may not. It may be a total bust. Fine.
My only interest here was finding someone who could say, "Yea, I tried it, and this is what happened..."

I just wanted what I asked for.
Real world, first hand experience, if any existed.

There's no reason to get all butt hurt. It's nothing personal. I just don't know you or your level of expertise. Like I said, I have my own options for advice who I know I can trust on matters like this.

Unfortunately, as I'm getting older, my patience runs thinner and I probably don't handle situations like this as well as I could.
For that, I truly do apologize.

Listen, for someone who lists his occupation as "VP Engineering," you seem to possess amazingly little engineering knowledge. I don't know what exactly "your shit" is, but so far, I can't remember a meaningful statement you made yet. Oh wait, it was "round stronger than rectangular."

You could treat yourself with a bit of thought before posting this question in the first place.

Fine jackoff, you want to play this game?
Your qualifications are...?
Comon, seriously, I showed you some of my shit, let's see yours.
Show me the designs you've come up with, the fab work you've done, the rigs you've built.
I'll be happy to give props.

if you were such an impressive engineer, youd have been able to answer your own question without making a dickhead out of yourself. decent XJ though, but maybe you should have went with a blazer or a bronco II :flipoff:

You haven't shown shit. In this particular thread, you've only shown that you don't know how a Detroit locker works - which becomes obvious once one takes a look at a blow-up picture at Tractech's website.
