From what I have seen its changed from a bunch of guys who pay other people to do some mods or install accessories, to guys who do some pretty radical stuff to there own trucks. Then do some pretty cool stuff with those trucks. Instead of maybe running a 3 yr old truck down an old fire or logging road.
I think I understand what your saying, just not sure the Jeep community will satisfy your itch. Maybe it will and I wish you luck with your jeep. Sorry the Land Rovers became affordable to the low life crowd you so dislike.

If you want family comfort and room, offroad capability, and relatively improved reliability you've got LR3/4 on the LR side and Grand Cherokee on the Jeep side. Not sure why you got a JKU.

For playing off-road you've got all the old Rovers and old to current Wranglers. They're all toys due to their age, design, or both. I've realized after years of D1 ownership that what I really wanted was a 86,88,or 90 inch Rover, or a classic Jeep. Maybe someday..

If cheap Rovers lowering the socioeconomic status of the community bothers you, go buy a Series II and hang out with the Rover clubs who's idea of wheeling is wine and caviar off the tailgate.

Or get a defender and hang out with those guys. Jymmies loaded and he's got a nice defender. He drinks PBR out of a Yeti cooler. If that isn't high end enough I don't know what is.

stated above, it changes the entire Land Rover community. Anyone that has been around for 15+ years knows what i'm talking about.

Have been "around" a fuck longer than 15 years with Rovers and have no idea what you're talking about.

For me the latest and greatest electronic wizard LRs have changed the LR Community as the owners have no fucking clue about LR.

I tried a Jeep JKU for the past 3 years.. it was fun. Going back on lease in a couple of weeks and just bought another 2001 D2. They are nice vehicles, but they just aren't rovers.

Because of the cheap asses that came with the cheap trucks.

I have been around the Rover community for a long time, more than the 15 year mark that has been put out on this thread. I was doing pre delivery inspections in dealerships when this guy was enjoying the "Rover Community" and I think I can shed a little light on just what he's talking about. But I wan't to do this tactfully because I have respect for my customer base and they are the crowd he refers to.
He is talking about the group of people who could afford a Disco while the rest of us could not. They had a click that was exclusive and owned a $45,000 truck before it was cool to own a truck that expensive. The most decked out Suburban one could buy was 50k ish and was the most expensive vehicle next to a Vette that Chevy was putting out. I think even Vettes were in that range at that time.
The Rover crowd liked, and still does like, being elite. That's what has been lost with the 2500 dollar Disco. But at the same time the people who can afford a Disco now are mechanically inclined most times and have done some pretty cool shit with these trucks. I like it, I learn from you guys doing all these off the wall mods. I get a kick out of the back and forth we throw at each other. What I know better than most but probably not as well as some is how this shit is supposed to work, what problems have come and what the correct repair is. I come on this board to try to stay current on a product that is no longer current. The shit I do for Rover now will, and does, make grown men cry. Fixing the current stuff is a game designed to humble the mighty.
I have always worked hard and my wife has always worked hard. She drives whatever she likes and its been that way since time. She likes the green oval and that's what she drives. So here it comes......the favorite thing I used to do to the Rover crowd this guy refers to is say " Ya mine did that for a while I know just how to fix that mr so and so. I could get a reaction from the snobby ass hats that thought they had something so exclusive. Some of them would even stop and have to regroup and ask "YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE?" I would answer as politely as I could that "Ya mines a couple years newer than this one but they all are the same"

So what hes saying is he likes it better when he and all his rich friends are the only people who own these trucks. But things have changed and he can't run with the big dogs any longer. He's on the porch near the rocker with a set of Jeep keys in his pocket.

Sorry for the rant but I just had to get that off my chest. I like the rover community now better than I ever did before. Getting the old girl out because there's 3 feet of snow and its drifting like a bitch is a personal experience for me, not something I do to impress.

But a Jeep has never impressed me even a little bit,so happy trails with that new Jeep. Hope you don't get hit in that bitch, cause your family is no longer wrapped in a truck that uses the crumple zone of whatever it hits.

I'll keep telling myself the Rover crowd sucks everytime I see some tool driving a lifted JK just ike yours adorned with a Salt Life sticker and blaring bro country. I'm sure the people who don't put XD wheels, body lifts and chrome side steps on their Jeeps are fine folks but they're not in the majority among modified Wranglers I see

he'll probably fit right in with this fucking douchenozzle:
http://www.wayalife.com

perfect for the elitist jeep enthusiast, whose pocketbook determines whether or not your good enough to drive the same truck

It sounds like the idiots who import defenders who think the rules don't apply to them...

That guy is the largest of douchenozzles. He was publicly bashing companies saying their shit sucks because they wouldn't "sponsor" him, and banning people off his forum for disagreeing with something he said. I remember the huge thread on Pirate a couple years ago.

EJS is pretty crazy. I understand why all/most of the locals hate it. One of the local RR4Ws dudes was talking with us all day on the trail then went out of his way to try and get us into trouble with the company we rented our RZRs from. The best part of EJS when I went a couple weeks ago was Area BFE at night, and when it was over and the trails were empty again. The rest is pretty much a huge Auto Expo but the only brand there is Jeep and it's 4,990 JKs and 10 actually nicely built Jeeps.

I enjoyed the Jeep thing for a while and met a few cool guys from out of state in the scene, but pretty much all of them have outgrown the community... it's mostly kids with POS trucks who think they know everything, or slightly older kids with lots of bolt on BS who think they have the most bad ass truck in town. There's a local "shop built" JK by me with King coilovers bolted onto the factory single shear rear shock mounts. All my close friends are Jeep guys but half of them don't even have one anymore and try to be as disconnected from the scene as humanly possible.

I figure it's plain old middle class snobbery (and insecurity). It's what happens when you rely on buying things to feel good about yourself.
