What about front recovery points on the ARB? Are there any? Can you add them anywhere?

If you look at tony's pic he added two dixon-bates to the front of his ARB.

It's a nice touch.

Dan's got a great point about the addition of "proper" recovery points. I've had to winch out his friend's, using only the LR supplied rear one, before a proper rear shackle was added. I was up past my knees in mud, and almost lost a boot trying to connect the recovery hook. lol. I can see the Dixon style being very useful, when needed.

There are two approved recovery points - one rear and one front. They're not tie-down loops - according to LR, you can apparently suspend the vehicle in the air from the rear one, although this is a trick I have not yet tried

The rear one is between the trailer plugs, so I can't see any aftermarket one being able to be mounted any higher?? I've recovered both myself and other vehicles from both points without any issues.

Cheers,

Gordon

The whole rear bumper cover was under mud, and the black plastic cover plate was still on covering access to the trailer receiver. It was not fun , but rather funny tryig not to slip facefirst into the trucks rear glass. lol.

The ARB is compatible and does not impede the radiator. I do however, like the brush bar. I didn't like the black so had it match painted. The black would look good on a white LR3 though.

(also emailed) i have an lr3 and am installing the arb bumper with winch and was considering getting the aluminum plates you appear to have as well. british pacific carries the one that looks like that but so does expedition exchange. did you have to do anything special to make the very front plate secure when using the arb rather than the stock plastic front-end?

does anyone know if one type works better with the arb bumper or if special parts have to also be made or ordered?

otherwise i understand these are pretty simple.

thanks.

Having had alittle, a very little, input on that bumper I will say that there are alot of limitations as to what can be done to the front of the LR3. The Hard Points( things youu cannot change) are numerous and spread WAY out. That is why the bumper is so thick. A slimline bumper is not going to work on the LR3 b/c the radiator and A/C condensor are mounted so low. The rest right on top of the front recovery point.

This Bumper is a Huge improvement over the stocker in the winch mount alone. Not to mention the added approach angles in front of the tires. Since this Is the first one I am sure there will be improvements and options to be added and sorted out. Having seen this go from cardboard to finished product was impressive. There is alot you cannot see in the pics that make this a Very nice product weather you are sirious wheeler or not.

I really like the look. And it looks better in person than in the pics:cool:

There are some pics with more detail on another board that really show this off a little better. This strikes me as an engineering project where the engineer made the most of the obvious compromises that had to be made. But then, that's why Mr. Turner is the man, heh?

Maybe it's me, but a big, strong, heavy duty-class bumper on a vehicle with stamped steel lower control arms....I'm just sayin'....someone please, put me in my place.

Is this stamped steel? I always thought it was forged, but I'm easily confused by such things. I'd like to learn. (rear suspension shot):

YES ITS CRAP
stamped steel, hollow and brittle
did i mention CRAP? doesnt belong on a SUV of this weight class or with the abilities the LR3 has

I cant agree more, esp since I have personally seen how flimsy those stampings are, when an impact with a isuzu trooper left the isuzu in better shape than the rover, my desire to own a lr3 went out the window-we had to return our rented LR3 and finished our 2 weeks in moab with a Lincoln navigator(amazing considering its size, air supension like the lr3, traction control and heated and air conditioned seats-but I am not abouty to buy one)

I soon sold my new 04 freelander and got into a certified 04 d2...it was a 15mph impact that cause the weak front axel, exposed air suspension and hummer like pencil thick steering to just crumble like I was looking at a nissan sentra that met a 18 wheeler..

Not to offend any lr3 owners but the latest from rover IMHO is NOT anywhere as rugged and the choice to use stampings is one thing; using thin, cheezy unreinforced design is just not in line with expedition grade or 'trail rated' for that matter.

even jeep kept the Jks rugged, rover made the lr3 very capable but not so much rugged, the bumper is nice but maybe overkill..in comparison to chasis and drivetrain
