No one's mentioned Chris' favorite: Land Rover Coffee.

I'd get a bag just to save the package it comes in.

peets, hands down.

the one in newport was the only one around here for a long while, they've just put one in huntington beach and it's sort of along my commute.

major dickason blend, or
top blend
kona (awesome but really goddamned expensive)

i will say the best cup of coffee i think i ever had was sitting on the rock ledge in kona drinking some Bad Ass. i thought the name was really dumb, but was blown away by the flavor.

yup, I used to buy my bad ass coffee from the flea market at aloha stadium on the weekends. straight from the growers when they first started out. don't know if they still do that, but it was the cheapest way to get kona, hands down.

Get something from Kenya or Ethiopia and at least give it a shot. It's my favorite, but then, I'm not a huge coffee drinker. It's not all that expensive, either.

Cheers,

Kennith

I like Millstone Coffee. It's sold at Kroger in my area. Good quality, value and variety. My favorite is their Caramel Truffel blend.

There is a combination travel agency/coffee shop across the street from my office that sells coffee from around the world. I've noticed that coffee from Guatemala is smooth and invigorating, while the Columbian blends tend to taste like... farm... shit. Like hay. Something.

289719 is right, though. Gevalia is superb. Can they even grow coffee beans in Scandinavia?

OK, I will put my $0.02 in... Nothing beats Starbucks, however Seattle's Best, is a mighty fine cup of joe as well, and Gevalia is pretty damn good too. What are some of you thinking when you say that Dunkin' Donuts makes good java? The stuff tastes like flavored hot water, heck the coolant in my Discovery, tastes better than that crap!!!!

http://www.dmcoffee.com/ - Lion's Rock French Roast. Not only is it great coffee, but it is named after Lion's Rock (Liberty Area off Blewett Pass) which is a great place to go wheelin. The coffee itself is strong, smooth, but very "roasty". Every time I drink a cup, I think of a campfire. When I'm in town, I also pickup one of their Breakfast Calzone's. Lion's Rock coffee, breakfast calzone, and heading to Manastash (or Liberty); life doesn't get much better than that.

If you like strong, coffee you might consider trying some of the winners of the annual Defcon Hackers Convention Coffee Wars. If Hackers know one thing, even the wannabes, it's how to make a good strong cup of coffee.

You can still get "Bad Ass" coffee at Aloha Stadium. The storefront on the Big Island has changed the name for legal reasons. 100% Kona coffee from Lion is great, but there's other outlets on the Big Island where it comes directly from elevation (has to be grown at 800 ft or higher) that are online. The flavor is in a class all its own. The real deal (100%) averages about $16 or so per pound. COSTCO at the Dole Cannery roasts 100% Kona on the spot (poured from the 100lb burlap sacks). I have Hawaiian coffee shipped to me and I give it as gifts. Lion coffee is one of the most popular, as is Sam Choy's and Roy's.

I have a big bag of Parry Estates 100% kona that I'm finishing off right now.. So it looks like I'll try some Italian roast Peet's and then some Bad Ass kona french roast once that's gone and so on down the line..

I only drink about 2 cups a day so the price doesn't matter to me.. Look forward to hearing more suggestions..

Eric,

I am coming home for a few weeks in October.

Just so you can judge what coffee really should taste like, I will bring a bag of beans for you from Brasil.

You like strong if I remember from a few posts back.

Let me know how strong.

E-mail me (jthomp2917 @ aol . com) your address.

Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee isn?t too bad either, yet, not as good as Brasilian.
