I,sent you a PM

Mongo -- I like the helicopter idea, I think I'll buy one.

BTW
I,am frequently astounded at the exuberance of your own verbosity !!!!!

Ok just having fun with you : )

Points well taken guys.

3 amigos has recently reared its ugly head for me : ( so I get it about that.

It's a soft code and stuff but I will do the fix anyways to bypass the system from throwing TC out during a fault situation.

Since its a soft code, I believe it could be the rear brakes need replaced and causing just enough occasional squeaking to set the fault.

I haven't had the dis-pleasure of getting stuck,in a fail situation during a nice 35deg climb yet and I don't think it would be very enjoyable.

As I told Justin in the PM I've been falling off of dirt bikes mid-air and running stuff over (ran myself over once) THAT WOULD HAVE MADE A GOOD VIDEO! for 45 years now so lots of off roading and such all over the country in all kinds of terrain from Arizona desert to Florida beach to the red soil of Georgia I've seen a lot and that's what I love to do.

Sorry somehow I missed your entry which said essentially the same thing I did.

Justin, you and your products and customer service are greatly admired here.

Your video kinda suggests your BSing your way through it and don't really care about accuracy.

Suggestion: if you are going to use this BB for an advertising platform that's cool, make your ad video stuff as accurate as possible, don't mess with a good thing -- meaning the fantastic reputation you have worked so hard to get.

I have to get some of those shirts !!! (and some armor, and a snorkel, and hi-lift jack and ...........................................)

No worries mate - I am posting under my other handle - for some reason I have two...

Anyway, forget momentum to those posting up about it. I am simply talking about sitting still or only moving forward slowly, but allowing the ETC to kick in - which requires more throttle than the video allowed and a constant throttle. Its not the best, but it does work and to my mind would have worked nicely there and wouldnt cause any damage. Now in saying that, there is NO DOUBT that CDL combined with traction control works better than ETC alone - simple. The traction control does not cut in as much and the vehicle feels more sure footed through the driver's seat of the pants stuff. My point still stands that the video did not show the ETC working properly. Go and get crossed up without CDL engaged even in low range (where SLABS makes the ETC more aggressive) and so forward progress is non-existent - just on the flat; let it idle and you will hear the pump working only very little and the wheels that have no traction getting stopped and started, but it doesnt translate to drive - in fact i have experienced it as a jerking forward and few inches and back again, over and over. You could get out and watch it probably...and leave it drive itself! Now accelerate gently and hold the revs...drive is transferred and it walks out all things being equal.

Also I am not knocking 5SPDISCO or suggesting fraud. It just didnt allow the ETC to work properly and it could have been done better. Why not let it climb the bloody hill, spinning and looking spectacular and then lock in the CDL to show it looking easier? No vehicle damage just a good account of the differences.

CHeers

PS I dont want to make a movie. I am happy for others to do it, but that doesnt mean I slavishly agree that they have done a good job. I dont want lockers. They are excellent, but not for me. Flame away

This video on You Tube is a good example of how well the Traction Control works.

In your video look at 1:20 to 1:27. The disco does not move forward until the tire comes back down and touches the ground. The traction control is trying but can't make the truck climb the hill without the help of the tire on the ground.

On a sidenote this isn't really a fair comparison between the two trucks. The disco has a longer wheelbase then the jeep. This gives the Disco the advantage for this particular obstacle. You'll notice the rear tires stay almost on the pavement until the front tire has already cleared the upper obstacle.

The reason we didn't do that is because the truck refused to climb that particular obstacle. No matter how much throttle Eli gave it. The disco would climb to a certain point and then spin the front tire all while the traction control pulsated the brakes. Unfortunately the traction control was not able to give enough energy to the tires with traction and climb up the steep incline

I agree about the wheel base advantage for the DII but I really think the ETC is controlling wheel spin and helping the DII get over the obstacle.

I installed a DI CDL lever in my 2000 DII and having the CD locked is a definite asset. We have had a lot of snow where I live recently, 60 CM in one day last week and another 25 CM last night. Lots of fun snow wheeling. Many times I have lost forward momentum, kept on the throttle lightly, I hear the ABS pump cut in and the TC light illuminates, wait a few seconds for the thing to find some traction and I'm off again. (new studded Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs help to) ETC is No substitute for lockers but a definite asset.

I see. Cheers mate. Sorry for having a shot at the vid given that you had already tried it. Certainly too hills never look as steep in a video as they really are.

Cheers

That video actually did a great job of showing the basic frustration of traction control: It's great, until it's not.

Then it's just nothing.
