A quick update on new happenings around here:

Registrations have been turned back on. I've added some stealthy anti-spam measures to the registration form (not the CAPTCHA) and it's stopping a ton of the spambot registrations--like 10 an hour--so that's really nice.

I also signed up for a commercial email delivery service to deliver the new user registration emails (and other notifications that you get). This service isn't free but it makes registration verification much more reliable for new folks. Depending on traffic, I might need a couple of volunteers to as new user approvers. It always sucks when you sign up for a forum and it takes the mods weeks to approve your account. I figure if we had a couple of folks helping out, most new users would get approved within a day or two.

Speaking of new users, I'm hoping to turn things around for the board. I love our front page and the Sinuhe photo but the dates on the news feed and some of the shitty tech articles make this place look like a ghost town. I want to fix that by having the front page automatically redirect to the forums and by moving the tech articles into a special forum (one thread per article) so they're searchable here.

Thanks, Stu. I'm going to work on a few things to automate the process. Once they're done, I will PM the folks who volunteered and get them set up to help.
