what do you think of 7N's direction lately? i need to pick up the new CD to see how much further they've gone. i like the stuff off the Factory and Road Kill Vol. I the best. too bad MacKeel folded years ago. :( i saw them live once just before they split. Fleur was absolutely amazing on the fiddle.

as for my favorite, too many to list, but i'll say Carbon Leaf. they are awesome live or recorded. seen them at least 20 times now.

others:
Delerium
Faith No More
Fighting Gravity
Eisley
Chalk Farm (defunct :( )

and more.... :D

$8500 ?!? Please elaborate !

I owned part of a promotions company. We brought Mickey Hart to Fort Wayne, Indiana a coupla years ago. I mortgaged my house to make the down payment to Mickey... He shows up, won't even shake my hand, much less pose for pictures with me and my business partners.

On the other hand, Vince Welnick is an incredible person, as is Merle Saunders and all of Leftover Salmon. Bela Fleck's manager and I became pretty good friends and I got to see many shows I wouldn't have been able to otherwise, much less backstage.

Jazz Mandolin Project is another good bunch of guys. Jamie Maiefield (sp) is a true gentleman musician.

BTW-it really is true the best music is heard backstage!

Peace,
PT

ps-I sing "pigeons on the roof" to myself when washing trucks in the Portland rain...

I saw Jupiter Coyote open for the Allman Brothers featuring Warren Haynes and Dick Betts. Those "brothers" sure can play:applause:

Yeah, they can play. Jupither Coyote is really good as well.
Last summer Lynyrd Skynyrd (one of my top 5 bands ever) and Allman Brothers played together in Birmingham, and this summer 3 Doors Down and Skynyrd are playing, and Allman Brothers are playing at a festival called city stages. Can't wait!

I was going to say Trotline, but I figured no one heard of them. We had them play at the Frat house twice this semester, then Velcro twice, Bo Henry Band was good, Wreckless is awesome, and U.S. Band! Chances are even if you have been out of college for 10 years you have heard of Trotline and Velcro.

PS sorry to all for all the quotes. I just love so much music I can't help myself. I have so many memories attached to so many songs and groups like dancing on the table at a bar in Myrtle Beach whilst belting out Firewoman by the Cult:victory:

lol.... I'm definitely an OLD 7N fan from back when they were Clan Na Gael, way back before Neil and Kirk went their separate ways. Still think the opening tracks of Old Ground are some of the best ever. Loved their cover of Under the Milky Way off of Big Dog, too. Don't get me wrong, pickin' up Dan on the fiddle's been great, and they got Scott on pipes now (who played on Mackeel's CD, BTW...), but, w/o Neil, they just weren't rooted where I kept up w/ 'em.. not bad, but just not tight to the genre. With that said, while I think the world of Neil and love to hear him play any chance I get, his solo CD's since have been too much of a jazz-fusion instead of the kitchen tunes that I dig.

Always enjoyed chatting w/ Fleur; she'd hang out w/ us at Radford, us going off and bringing back beer for the band, her playing w/ our dog... did you know that she and Randy got married?

After they split up, we'd become Clandestine junkies, catching them in Abingdon, Grandfather, Asheville, where e'r we could get to.... after they broke up, Jen moved to Asheville, got married, then they sold the Eagle and moved off to Missouri so she could continue w/ grad school.... EJ's still touring, Emily's got a band too, but I've not heard a thing about Gregory, reckon he's just being a dad now....

Anyway....

I guess I'll be the only one here to mention these guys.

Blind Guardian
Dream Theater
Rhapsody
Stratovarius
Lost Horizon
Iced Earth
Manowar
Etc...

I love it all. The bigger the sound, the better. Choirs, screaming guitars, relentless machine gun percussion, orchestras, and soaring opratic vocals. All in one song.:victory:

Those boys from Strawberry hill got the fanciful, lyrically loopy, classicly inspired many instrumented thing going, though. And they still sound good today. From the early sixties to the present, they played to crouds all over the world. Their sound hasn't really changed much, but it has evolved with technology. More recently, they have gone back to their roots with acoustic versions of many of their past hits.

Expect instruments commonly found in bluegrass and classical music creating sounds that swim together with the lyrics to form some esoterical form of rock that is mainly soft and melodeous, but on occasion rises with power rivaling anything else out there. Their ability to convey an emotion and alter your mood to accept a feeling is, in my opinion, unrivaled.

I strongly suggest any of you posessing a legal download service to try them out, if not, buy a CD, try that pandora music thing, or visit strawbsweb for teasing little clips of recent live shows. You just might become hooked, as I did.

Cheers,

Kennith
