Funny, some of the worst conditions were around the rallie control tent. So much traffic turned the ground to soup. Alot of the trails were very doable Sat after lunch.

I still can not beleive that they let anyone stay the night Fri on the island. The weather band was predicting the flooding for Sat AM at 2 pm on Fri. Just glad no one got hurt.

I am always amazed at how far an ill equiped vehicle will make it in the middle of the night. Some poor guy in a series stuck on the west river loop had to leave it over night. Always happens even when it has been dry.

Any count on tent losses (little bit of wind Thurs night and HEAVY RAIN) Mine bit the dust at 4am the first night! I am lucky to have good friends who allowed me into their Pop-up.

Which tent was yours?

I just wanted to add that I have made it safe and sound back home after having my rig hauled to Rovertym for near term repairs and finding a rental car company that was actually open in Richmond! Cheers to Drew, Steve and a couple other gentleman (sorry my memory) that assisted me and my three wheeled truck. I snapped one of my front axles on the trail and the above guys "band-aided" it to get it back to camp (with special thanks to Drew.) ....if anyone happened to get a pic of the silver three wheeler...please post it.

As the story goes....

hitting the trails early Thursday afternoon, I got stuck a few times and winched out twice (the trail coming down off the Island where there where two immediate short, steep grades) ...coming back, I attempted the first steep grade twice then hitting it hard....launching all four wheels off the ground and the supposed strapped tire on top coming loose. (I thought it had fallen off and killed my friend who was outside watching....memories came back of a red rover previously owned;-)

Later that night after insuring the rack lights were functional (ha! only three by the way...) We hit the trails again. Upon hitting the decent before the East River Trail by-pass, I notice I only had rear traction with the CDL locked around the not-so-hairy-at-the-time switchback. Taking the left trail option which was easy, I heard a loud gut-wrenching i pitched sound......the same I heard when toasting my fron CV's the first time and kept going for a few feet...noticing that something was wrong. I stopped and got out looking at the front passenger wheel.....going holy sh*t!!!! ...then meeting up with my friend at the rear where he questions........"Is that your wheel??"

Damn! ...and $$$$$

btw.....the XZL's will be retired and I WILL return to MAR next year, this time likley towing my rig in anticipation of potential "issues". The speculation is still just that but I am sure the tires have contributed greatly.....

All in all I had a great time wheeling with others as a passenger after the sob story;-)

MAR 2006!!!

!!!

Funny thing was that my Paul Morgan and I were coming down the trail when we met up with you. The comment was that I lost my wheel. Not knowing what you meant I asked Paul what the hell that means to lose a wheel. Paul looked at me kinda funny. When we got there we understood.

The moral of the story is.... If you break a front stub shaft on a D2 the only thing holding the unibearing together is the brake caliper

Time for the Dana style front axle!!

I think I got a pic of you sleeping in the PR camp, but not in your tent.

....not wondering. ...have been speculating for some time though;-) Mere height isn't the major contributor to the issue. Those tires will stand tall without air in them;-) Also, I 'thought' the total package was HD. the shaft where the splines meet the hub is in fact stock. The weakness has been minimized but not eliminated.

...well, someday I will be cool....maybe :p

None of you Philly Rovers guys ever came out of the woods! I couldn't get up the hill in my RR, so I couldn't come and visit. And then you snuck out on Saturday. I was looking forward to seeing you guys. Oh well. At least Susannah kept me company, and Steve & crew too!

Whose '04 Green DII was that winching in the photos? (TJM front and sliver steel wheels)

Does anyone know what kind of lift that rig is running?

Looks great....Hope everyone had a good time in all of that mud.
