Sorry to burst your bubble, but... a typical whining rant of a California loser.
It is strangely coupled with a very fair evaluation of Governator's performance.

Don't worry, no bubble to burst. It could be that most of it was a fair evaluation; you seem to defend California against pretty much all.

Just wait 'till you live someplace else where there are jobs - you'll find that it's exactly the same (or worse), except you don't live someplace amazing, and maybe you can buy better guns.

The drivers and traffic in the DC area make me LONG for easy drives and predictable drivers in LA. Yes, real estate is pricey in LA, but renting is not, and if you live close to where you work, you don't have to deal with an insane commute. Life's too short to waste an hour and a half a day fuming mad stuck in traffic.

I drove through Pacific Beach and La Jolla yesterday - the girls riding bikes in swim suits on city streets were worth it.

The only other state I'd want to live is Colorado. It is remarkably similar to California in many respects, including politics.

Geography? Check.
Politics? Check.
Wine and Beer? Check.
East Coast vs. West Coast? Check.

This thread is on it's way to Dweb Classic!

I've never lived in Cali, but one of my fondest memories as a teenager was of a driving trip we took from San Francisco up Route 101 into Washington state. City, country, city....beach, mountains, and desert. It was lovely. Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit everything along the route, but the landscape and the few stops we made were worth it. I think we spent about 2 days in San Fran before the drive and then about 3-4 in Seattle at the end (my dad had a conference). I've never been south of SF and I'd love to go back.

Also never made it out into Olympic National Forest--but I visited Seattle and other parts of WA on another trip after college--Mt. Ranier was another great memory!

I live ~7 miles in from the beach so I don't see that every day but I do when I get on Highway 1. It's refreshing. I didn't mean I hated California, just trying to imply that the negatives are catching up to the positives. The recent feeling I get about California would probably be much improved if we were to move back to San Luis Obispo.

Knewsom, I've driven in DC; the traffic was pretty similar there if I recall. Easy drives in LA...lol.

Have you driven in DC during rush-hour? It took me an hour and a half to go 3 miles once. Top record for that in LA for me was 45 minutes. It's not like LA where you can just hop on a city street and take an alternate route - you're bound by bridges that really prove to be bottlenecks, and the bridges aren't the only ones - there are streets that change direction depending on time of day, and all sorts of streets that you'd think are through, but aren't.

Take the Metro, problem solved.

The DC metro is pretty good, actually, but could seriously stand some improvements. Lately there have been lots of delays, breakdowns, and trains sharing a single track. Took my wife an hour to get home the other night because they had to deboard her train, send everyone the opposite direction one stop, and take the next train instead, which was delayed. Ugh. It's also so crowded sometimes that you can't actually get on a train.

Florida is good for old people. At least it's good for something.

California is just a disaster. Everything about it.

All those old people are moving from FLA to South Ga. Everytime a hurricane hits, they come up and some stay.....:banghead:

If I am driving south I will go several hours out of the way to avoid it. After all I would be sitting still for several hours even though it saves miles.

My favorite is going from 95mph to 5mph and then back to 95mph and then back to 5mph. Hell in the Rover by the time I get up to speed theres another crash and I have to try and stop again. My engines getting hot, the brakes are solid orange, and I've only covered 1.5 miles.
