I tried a Tacoma. Hit my head on the door frame every time I tried to get in. Too small.
Since you looked at Tundra's and Tacoma's, have you looked at something like the Chevy Silverado Custom Trail Boss, especially with the diesel motor? It seems to be a pretty good truck from what I can tell, especially with the 2023 model motor improvements. I am a Toyota guy but if I were to buy a pickup tomorrow, that would be it. 30+ MPG must be really nice. Pricing seems decent - they are now discounting them. If you go V8, the mileage is still an improvement but it also costs less.

If Ineos would have put a strong MPG diesel in their US version at the same pricing they are offering for the turbo V6, I think a lot more of us would have gone for it...

The mileage is so far below anything out there listed it's impossible to guess what it might sell for.
Sold for $33,250. Like Cruisers yet not a fan of RHD driving in the US.
While living in Tokyo had a RHD ‘96 D1 which was fun. Driving a RHD vehicle in a RHD Country is pretty easy and not too difficult to get used to it. Having one in the US would just be a pita.

The new LandCruiser coming to the US sounds promising. Timing is right for me. If it's close to what is being speculated, I'll be launching our modern LR.

I have looked closely at the Silverado Trail Boss. Looks like a nice truck and that 3.0L Duramax Turbo Diesel 6-cyl is sweet. 305HP and 495LB-FT is great. MPG on the 4WD is less, and even less on the Trail Boss editions with those knobby tires - down to about 20/23. Still damn better than 14 mpg on premium gas.

Totally agree about Ineos and diesel. Putting a dog engine in a brand new innovative vehicle was a clumsy rookie move. If they had a torquey 25-30 MPG diesel in there it would be a completely different vehicle.

I watched that auction end.....can't believe it didn't top $40K. I wonder what it drives like.....I just can't conceive of actually having a truck that takes nearly 20 seconds to hit 60 MPH. There are very affordable gray market Defender 110s all over Arizona but the anemic diesel engines just don't cut it.

I’m more excited to see what the new Land Cruiser is at this point than the Grenadier. Went to build one online and quickly got over $80k with a handful of add ons. Can’t justify that for any vehicle much less one that’s going to take some bumps and bruises on the trail

I didn't realize the new Land Cruiser was on the web already. Will have to check it out.

Just spy photos and guesses right now. The new GX that will potentially be very similar is out, though. 33’s and a rear locker stock.

I've actually been looking at 2023 and 2024 Defenders. My 2024 build is only about $73k for the P400 6-cylinder model. I thought they were all well into the $80s or even $90s. At the same price or less than a Tundra, I'd take the Defender easy.

Really? I thought you were out of the Ineos game due to price which seems pretty similar to 73k…

Out of Ineos due to price for what you get. The Ineos I'd want is pushing $90K. The Tundra I'd want is mid-70s. The Defender I'd want is low 70s. The Silverado Custom Trail Boss with the Duramax Turbo Diesel I'd want is only $57K. I'm not much of a Chevy guy but it sure looks good in comparison - and it's the only diesel.

I also do have to admit that I was a bit naive when it came to new truck prices. I thought you could get a lot more for high $50s and into the $60s. That's what I get for driving a 1998 car and a 2013 truck.

Small sample size but my FIL’s 20’ GMC Sierra has been a borderline lemon with simple stuff failing. Has now had all door locks stop functioning (and needing replacement) and AC crap out not once but twice…Has maybe 40k miles on it

That's why I'm not much of a Chevy guy!

Yeah...there are always some bad apples. I am not a big die hard GMC or Chevy guy, but I did have a tahoe that did solid work up into 120k miles before I sold it. We are on a Land Rover forum after all! :). I am concerned about the reliability of ALL new cars nowadays. Even my Lexus/Toyota favorites are questionable with all the new drivetrains.

For giggles I checked out the Defenders. I am bummed - they used to have one you could spec for 53k with the 4 cylinder and no options that doesn't seem to be an option anymore. However, the Defender 130 with the off road and tow packages came out to 73k. That is really interesting to me, but still more than I want to spend on a vehicle.

I've lifted mine 3" and bigger tires so I have to kind of hop up into it, so hitting my head hasn't been an issue. The biggest complaint is the placement of the safety sense controls/rear-view mirror. Find some other place for that and tuck the RVM up under the headliner and I'm good. Oh, and I'm 6'3".

Given my lifestyle I need a truck, That said I'm just not inclined to fork over 70-80k, and buying my Tacoma out of pocket couldn't afford to. For about 48k I scored the truck, lifted it, winch and bumper up front, bumper in back, 32' tires, SmartCap topper, and various other smaller upgrades. I can live with the RVM in the way. And before anyone makes a commit, the only way I could get the SmartCap was to go commercial, or wait months, maybe a year. I'll rino line it to match the truck at some point. The soft shell tents SUCK to set up and tear down. I’m definitely upgrading to a hard shell next year. Open in 5 seconds and close in one minute.
