I understand what you're saying. Is your truck lifted? Roof rack? My XJ weighed as much as a lifted Disco, was on 35" MTZs, and had no swaybars. It cornered, stopped, and felt just as good as or better than stock. I've helped build other Jeeps that were tires as large as 42" that had no problems on the highway or off road at speed.

The thing I find is that most Rover guys lift and raise COG but don't go wide. That's messy. I'm assuming you're adding a larger front swaybar or a giant Jay Leno chin front bumper since you are suggesting you are going to be increasing understeer?

If you think a Jeep on 35's handled as "good" or better than stock, Jeep must have been making a really shitty vehicle. Maybe I'm jaded from driving around newer Land Rovers, but that statement just seems ridiculous. I guess Americans do know how to make a shit car...

you cant compare a stock XJ to a LR3/4 or even a Disco I/II. The Rover is way ahead stock for stock, and the XJ was designed in the late 70s by mostly the French (Renault), not Americans. I was running around on USA-made aftermarket race springs developed specifically for a XJ, custom valved Bilstein 9100 shocks, 3/4 ton axles that increased my track width a great deal (and lowered my COG a good amount), and brakes off of a 1-ton truck. So yea, I'd say it did pretty well. If I had more motor it would have been faster than stock too.

As for a being a shit American car, I could overheat that 4.0 to 275F, boil out the radiator and pin it on the limiter all day, roll it over, and then drive home. I don't believe that would be possible with these Rover motors.

here's some pics for fun...

If he meant to properly insult anyone, he'd do a lot better than that. It was clearly a prodding joke.

Those are deliberately poor insults meant for amusement.

They are also funny.

I do believe these are the worst tires I've ever used on paved roads, and they can't hack it on dirt and gravel, either. I don't like them at all.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck with them for a little while.

First off I doubt that your XJ weighed as much as a disco. Maybe if the disco was stock and the heep had the weight of 35s. But maybe I am wrong on this.

Second though, I have never been in a vehicle that has no swaybars, lift enough to fit 35s and have the vehicle corner and stop as good as stock.

I call complete B.S. and it is not because of your heep. Many others say the same thing on here about rovers and it just is not true.

just under 5100lbs with a barely any gear, 1/2 tank of gas and no driver. its was plated, caged, and loaded with 1/4" steel bumpers and skids... plus the fullwidth axles.

not sure if youve ever driven a stock XJ, but they are pretty miserable at braking stock, especially the early models. handling is meh as well. the suspension setup i was running was almost exactly what jeepspeed 1700 runs.

i'm pretty sure this thread is about MTRKs. i think.

I did, and saw nothing particularly wrong with braking or handling. I'd DD one if I didn't have enough vehicles already.

ken sounds like you need to pull around a trailer of tires and swap them to accomadate the conditions you are faced w/

Two sets is enough when I plan on going somewhere. One for everyday use, and another specifically chosen for the job.

To reference another post, I am indeed bitching about the MTRKs, and I'll continue.

I had them up to speed today, driving west a bit to pick up some interior bits for the DII. HOLY SHIT!

These things are fucking loud as hell. Add that to my complaints.

Add as well that they have affected my top speed dramatically. I was struggling to reach 85 in a vehicle that previously topped out at 100, and comfortably cruised in the low 90s.

I've used a number of mud tires, but these are fucking intolerable.

Ironically, I was going to start a joke thread a couple months ago "where can I find some decent Z rated mud terrains".

dang nabbit, i hate it when my mud tires dont let me drive over the speed limit. and who knew tires with huge tread voids would be loud? thats a new development for sure.
