I think you missunderstood my original post. My intention was to show the Land Rover community what "others" think and just start a conversation about it. I'm not choosing any sides here. As for me, I'm a Land Cruiser owner. Do I hate Land Rovers? No! My dad has owned his Discovery for a couple of years now and has never had any problems with it. I like them both very much...

What, like you are some kind of peacemaker? BS! You are trying to start trouble and you know it. And for the record, most LC owners I know have a very high degree of respect for LR owners and vice versa. If you are hanging around with people who think otherwise I might suggest hanging with a more mature crowd.

This is what I was thinking as well.
Usually when we are at 'all' 4wd functions the LC and LR guys (and gals) are usually hanging out together.
I have never felt animosity from Cruiser people. It's always seemed to be the opposite for us.

What do you guys have to say?

What would you honestly think we have to say?

I think this is a LR forum therefore I would assume most of us enjoy them.

i hate those flipping land rover defender range things..

/i keed, i keed..

i um.. enjoy talking with a british accent, placing my cup of tea in a perfectly engineered cup holder.. and eating crumpets using my perfectly sized crumpet trays while sitting on plush british leather..

what you just did was throw shit at land rover owners, to hear everyone defend their trucks.. atleast thats how i see it.. in reality.. it dosn't really matter.. peoples tastes are obviously different.. i'll pull you out if you get stuck in your moms station wagon.. i just expect to get pulled out when i get stuck..

to each his own

I personally love all of the Land Rover and Toyota LC models. They are all awesome trucks.

The Land Rover off-roading reputation was made by the diesel coil-sprung rigs in the Camel Trophy (and earlier). While the NAS petrol models are still darn capable, I'm not sure that they posess all of the ability, simplicity, and reliability of the diesel models.

And that is the crux of why this (and their thread) are crazy. We are comparing too many trucks to too many other trucks. When I bought my Disco, the only Land Cruiser for the same price had 3 more years and 40k more miles on it. That locker in the Land Cruiser came with it because the owners paid for it. The Disco is in the same price range as the 4Runner. The Range Rover is in the same price range as an LC, but it isn't targetting hard core off-roaders... it was targetting wealthy business men.

I'd take any of 'em.

And what flavor is Toyota again?...ahh thats right...Vanilla!...plain and just like everyone else

Well Marcus...to a point. I will say one BIG thing about the LC's is that they have excellent axles, gears, & diffs. They are very inexpensive and very strong. That is a hard combo to beat. Frankly, people talk about Toy reliability, but thier motors are not really all that. The Rover V8 is pretty darn good and also cheap as well.

The vanilla goes to the body and interior. There is nothing going on special there at all. This is not to say they are bad; they just don't have much flair.

In the end though it is each to his own. With all of the greenies taking our trails I really see no point in arguing over brand. After all, I have seen some pretty crappy looking Rovers too :)

I've got a 89 FJ-62, 97 lx450(fj-80), and a 95 Disco. I love the disco, but.......

The 80 is the better made truck without a doubt. Easier to work on and stronger parts. Sorry, but true.

LOL-

Why would I care what a TLC site says about Rovers? If you are considering a Toy vs. LR then you're not an enthusiast...

You can't go wrong with either one.

They are both capable vehicles. There are simply Toyota people and Land Rover people. Both vehicles have benefits and drawbacks.

Cheers,

I love that 89 LC i've always liked that vintage and look.

I cant believe how big that diff is compared to the rover diff in that thread. That is some beef.

Stock vs. Stock, which had the better ride? (If you can remember a stock disco ride)

Modded vs. Modded, which does better off road?

Stock vs. stock off-road, the cruiser will kick the disco's ass.

There are plenty of people that have both LCs and Rovers.....many even on this board....and we CAN all get along! I actually love taking trails with other makes just for the fun of comparison...and I think most off-road enthusiast can respect and appreciate another vehicle that performs well and is tastefully equipped. We have a good friend who had a Range Rover but got into selling jeeps (no rover dealer here)...he now has a Rubicon that is really well modded and it's great fun to go out and see what it can do. Even at MAR people enjoyed talking to him about it and discussing it's capabilities/functions.

Oh-and that video was fantastic! Can it be ordered on DVD somewhere?!

You should be able to save it to your computer. Just Save as. I look at the price of a disco versus a Land Cruiser. I would have to get a fj-60/62 with close to 200k for the price of a disco 1 with a 100k. Plus you can't beat the coil sprung disco versus those dang leafs.

Exactly...buy a disco and put the savings into mods (HD axles/lockers/2" lift) and I think you'll find the prices are pretty comparable. Plus you get to put your trail rig together...kind of like legos for adults.
