figures they would edit dan rather in reporting on that stunt, he can't get anything right. It's clearly a left-wing propaganda tool to encourage us that LC's are better than LR's. I myself stick to fox news, and leave it upto a steady supply of real facts before I make any judgement.

p.s. - i hope you know i don't really think that's a real broadcast by ol' danny boy. oh ya, i think we should follow in WV's footsteps and claim english as the state language, in every state. No more struggling with employee's at taco-bell, wal-mart, or any places that i might goto.

You sure have everything pretty well figured out with all your years of life experience.
Aren't you like a college freshman?

What did I buy?

I have, at times, done a lot of offroad work for remote radio sites etc.

First job to do this bought me a Mitsubishi Pajero (don't know what it is called in other countries).

Second job doing this type of work bought a Toyota Prado for me to use!

I completed ~250,000km in the Pajero and ~300,000km in the Prado.

Next job, I had the option to buy my own 4WD (they pay me an allowance).

I bought a SeriesII Discovery. ;)

lol, JSQ, you're correct on the fact that I'm in college, going to be a soph. I was joking about dan rather. He's a great news personality and I was only alluding to his national guard story flunk-up and CBS's blatant liberal bias. I hope you don't think I'm that close-minded.

I've got both

I have both and love both Brands. My choice and dream vehicle is a D90 just cause they are badass and just stick out. I do get a ton of complements on my FJ40 though.

'70 FJ40
'96 Disco
'04 G4 Disco

I'd give them all up for a Defender.

"All I can say is that anything made by a Brit is a POS. Yeah yeah the Discovery Series is pretty tuff on tht trail but it doesn't come close to a FZJ80. Then you have the Range which is right in line with comfort but again can't compaire on the trail. Bottom line, neither the Range or Disco have lockers and I'd never put my trust in the Rovers. When I'm 100+ miles from the nearest help, never will I want to be in a Rover."

or...

"Consumer reports consistantly ranks Land Rover as the least reliable vehicles on the market. Toyota and subsidiaries are consistantly ranked most reliable, and the LC is always praised for reliability.

Land Rover would be lucky if their products become as reliable as a Ford.

Ford would be lucky if their products become as reliable as Toyotas

Regardless of a Rovers offroad prowess, reliability is my #1 priority, so it is Toyota for me."

What do you guys have to say?

Hmmmm.....I have a locker in my Disco and I have been 100's of miles from nowhere. Other than gas & oil and a little preventative maintenance, I've never been stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds like this chump just has a little of the standard Toyota owner jealousy. Nothing new. Nothing surprising.

The unintentional irony in that sentence speaks volumes.

I used to own a 95 Disco, back in 98-2000. Loved it, but mechanical and electrical issues (all under 30K miles) led me to sell it. Not complaining, just stating fact.

I still work on Rovers from time to time, have friends and a sister who own them, and still love them just as much now as I ever did. Read: alot.

But, that said, since the Disco left, I've owned nothing but Cruisers and couldn't be happier. First an 83 FJ60, and now a 95 FZJ80 that I bought in 2000 and haven't had a single issue with other than starter contacts. Not bragging, just stating fact.

So what am I doing on Discoweb? My love of four wheel drive vehicles and their inherent beauty of engineering makes reading otherwise inconsequential-in-life posts about watts linkages, axle issues, diesel swaps, roof racks, etc. interesting to me. As I said, I still love Rovers, so I still love reading about them.

Most of my free four-wheel forum time is spent over on ih8mud.com, probably the largest site devoted to Cruisers. And the original poster of this thread, hks3sgte, was looked upon with pretty much the same troll-like disdain over there when he added to a similar thread as he was here.

Truth is, anyone who really loves fourwheeling easily dispenses with the brand-warefare mentality, leaving it to the webwheelers and elitists. Cruisers and Rovers are each unique vehicles, which puts us in a class a little seperate than someone who runs out and buys the first Jeep they see without an ounce of research other than "I think they look cool." Cruiser owners wishing that Rover owners would see the light and "admit" that Cruisers are better, or Rover owners wishing the same from Cruiser owners, are really no different than the guy who sees no problem in driving a vehicle you'll see across from you at every stoplight.

Embrace the differences, man.

First off let me state my 2 cents personally I don't give a shit what people say about the Land cruiser and all that shit about it being way better way stronger that's straight up bullshit. The frame of a cruiser the welds brake alot easier than rovers I know cause iv'e seen it done never had a rover frame do that The rover frame to me is stronger more stout and thicker and will last alot longer. Plus some yota owners from what I've seen are always bashing rovers talking shit like rovers suck or unrealiable just all kinds of bullshit. I love my 1996 discovery and I wouldn't trade for shit and as far as wheeling the LC with lockers won't out wheel a rover. factory lockers doesn't mean a thing if the person driving it doesn't know how to wheel it. My pops has a fj80 me and him went to hollister hills for off road and my D1 went everywhere his fj80 with lockers did without a problem. If yota owners really what to know something why did toyota name it Land Cruiser why because of the superb quality and recommedation of Land Rover. LC owners who spend time dissin rovers for unknowns reasons really needs to grow and learn that just because they don't have a certain 4x4 doesn't mean they have to say theirs is better cause in reality it's not it's called jealousy plus some of them need to learn to keep their fucking comments to themselves. Land rover rules I don't give a shit what nobody thinks. and again british product are not POS cause if they were bentley and rolls wouldn't cost what they do and various parts of the world wouldn't use land rover.

sorry about the post above It just makes me a little upset to always here some Yota owner dissin rovers for unknown reasons. I won't lie the LC is a decent truck but to me it doesn't hold a candle to a rover key reasons
1. The Rover has alloy/steel body the LC has steel body the rover is lighter and just as strong alloy can be as strong as steel even if lighter.
2. The rover has better departure angles than the LC unless it's a FJ-40
3. After a while the LC will rust like shit the rover will still look the same
4. To me the rover has a stronger frame but will admit the LC diffs do look a little beefier a little.
5. The rover has more appeal and when really modded can look tougher than a LC Definetly a D90 the LC it looks plain even when modded.
6. The LC wont be anymore realiable than a Rover if it isn't care for.
7. In reality It all boils down to what a person likes Me and my father both go wheeling quite a bit me in my D1 him in the LC fj-80 he enjoys his wheeler and I definetly enjoy mines the cruiser is cool truck but like i said it doesn't have a appeal but if the fj-80 makes my dad feel good about his truck then who am I to judge either way I'll keep my 96 D1 until she dies years from now and for the record my D1 is my first vehicle and she has been very realible for me. Both are good trucks it just depends on taste.

Ya know why the hell does it matter? LC, LR who cares if you like what you have leave it at that, both have there ups and downs. This is the type of crap ass thread I'd expect to see in a Jeep Board "it's a jeep thing" phff. I would have thought LC and LR owners would be above this.

I was a spotter for my friend when he went out with his jeep club, and it was fun and his club had alot of cool fokes but at big events where there where other 4x4's like LC LR all I heard was them bad mouthing anything that was not a Jeep. So when it came time for me to get my own rig I looked around at Jeeps,LC, LR and older Fords ( don't laugh) I looked at Board looking at the differnet communities for each. Jeepers hate everything not jeeps, Ford owners Chevy, LC and LR seemed mellow. So I ending up get a Dico I why a Disco over a LC they both where about the specs, it just came do to the way it drove and looked. Both are great off-road so there :p As for whats better stock? Who the hell runs a stock LC, LR in the midle of Death Valley anyway??? We Mod for what we do. My rig blows at rock crawling cause I don't have it set up that way so if I could not make it up a hit due to big ass rocks and a differnet make of truck can I hear ohhh LR suck you couldn't even make it up that. Well..... DUH it's rigged for that. Sorry I got off on a rant .

To Some up LC, LR both good,Jeeps are also good most Jeep owners bad.

I look at it like marrying a really hot woman. Yeah, sure you might have a few more headaches and a bit more maintainance than if you were to marry the average girl. But damn it, at the end of the day, you have to be able to look at what you "drive" and be excited about it. Toyota builds (IMHO) the best appliances in the world. I just don't want to drive an appliance. I've had two Toyotas. One I sold at 275,000 very hard miles and one I sold at 180,000 to buy my Disco. Neither one ever gave me trouble, but I still couldn't wait to hand over the Toyota's keys for a Land Rover.

I guess we all would be driving the TLC or some Toyota if it was based off of some Consumer Report type publisher then. But everyone has different tastes and beliefs and therefore I am glad we have choices like the one you mention. Why I like my Rover should only matter to me but of the Discovery's that I have or had, I have found them to great vehicles and reliable and never have I been stranded as you say and that is why i continue to drive them.

In the end, they are just machines and they all require maintenance and with the proper maintenance any vehicle will last for a longtime regardless of the make.

I just like to add that Toyota looks like it is just like Land Rover in the sense that they making the LC a glorified mall cruiser as well so....

"I've also attached a couple of pictures of Venezuelan expedition rigs."

Yep we use toyo's in venezuela because they are still made there and you can buy parts for them everywhere.......

The only landrover's you see are individual imports, or the police......

somehow landrover sold the venezuelan government around 2500 diesel defender's........without a single dealer in the country.....

I've driven both the SWB and lwg cruisers in the 6 cylinder form, and yes they perform well.

and yes my rover does the same........

I think some of the best shots of offroad cruisers is here......

go to the fotos

To see the race action and some good looking celebrity chicks....

Its basicly a timed GPSbased rally..

I even spent my weding night in one of my friends trucks as I'd already sold mine....

even now you can still buy a brand new FJ80 in venezuela..........

As for this whole controversy.. Why can we be friends? Why cant we be friends? For real dudes. We drive what we like, and we like what we drive. :victory:

"Do I see a simularity here?"

yep.........the competition is fierce with the top prize being a brand new truck......

Most of the "extreme" group trucks have setups similar with multiple GPS systems.

Computers etc......one is set up with the way points in order, one is setup with every other point......and there's usually a laptop with mapping software too.

The huge mugs are for Polar beer who sponsor the event.....a sixpack per person each day and a bag of ice.....

They run comps every two months around the country in the diferent states, have film crews, helicopter safety and models geting muddy...

Its the best run 'anything' in venezuela.............and great fun.

the similarity ends however with the installation and engineering technique......:smilelol:
