az_max what year of veedub ya got?

I had three bugs; all gone now, a 65, a 65 sunroof (metal), and a 67 convertible. First one had a 2180cc Dual Dells, second one only had a 1600 (stock). The Conv had a 1835 with webers, pan-up resto with some custom work. My brother had a 65 ghia and a 69 panel van. My friend bought the van from him and still has it.

God help me, I hope that Bullriding dies soon as well...:p

We've enjoyed "The Fly Fishing Masters" lately....but the air times are weird.

Does anyone else get the "MOR" channel? They have some cool shows every once in a while, usually late at night. We usually catch this...

Sweet, I had (have, still garaged in Utah) a 1966 VW baja. 2.5 ltr Dual Dell setup. One seat and its shelled out on the inside w/fiberglass front end. Not the best in the world but it kicks out some power for what it is :). I would have killed a couple of years ago for a Ghia.

Might have mentioned this story before, but an old GF of mine got nearly 35k miles out of an oil change on her (then) new Honda Civic. No topping up and no filter changes.

Of course the motor blew at the same 35k mark. Did I mention she wasn't a big thinker?

I've never needed to add oil to my Mobile 1 filled DII, but that is just over 3000 mile intervals. At 41k I would expect it to be empty.

It would be interesting to know how much oil they did in fact add.

a local garage is advertising a conversion so you change oil every 25,000 miles, i would hate to think how many engines will die from sludge buildup (especially if anybody tries that with a older toyota engine).

As for VW's i loved mine i had 4 ghias a 61, 2 72's and a 73 cabrio with a heavily built 1835.

Greg,

Fortunately I checked the oil after a trip to Tahoe and found it to be almost two quarts low. I can imagine there are plenty of owners who dont even think about checking the oil, by then it may be too late. I have a Honda Pilot now and it doesnt take any oil. It's nice to have a car that I can just jump in and go. But part of the appeal of the Defender for me is the constant tinkering, the pre trip checks and the smell of gear oil:D

I've had good luck with my 2000 VW Eurovan. Hitting 130k miles right now and it uses ~1/2 quart every 3000 miles. Not quite the same engine as your 2002 as mine is a 12 valve 2.8 VR6 and yours was 24 valve 2.8 with the drive-by-wire throttle.

The true weak link in the EV is the auto transmission. No movement in Drive at 35k miles and VW paid for repair even though past warranty. At 115k lost reverse. Dealer stated needed new trans and quoted $6k!! Local indy trans shop pulled trans and replaced broken seal for $800-no probs since!

I can't believe all you guys buying into the bullshit advertising of quick lube retailers and the petroleum manufacturers. Most people don't need to change their oil every 3000 miles (maybe if they use the cheapest oil they can find). It seems oil manufactures are always claiming their oil is new and improved so why has the interval to change it remained the same?

Granted some driving conditions may warrant more frequent changes but do you really think it's necessary every 3000 miles?

Do all you guys buying the premium synthetic oils replace at 3000 miles too? :banghead:

My LR service manual recommends changes every 7500 miles, so as long as I get it before that I'm happy. I usually have to add one quart in that timeframe though.

Kavic never misses an episode of Wanted: Ted or Alive.

Actually I rarely watch, but I did catch part of the marathon.

I forgot there were some good hunting shows on VS! I haven't watched that channel since hunting season last year.

Sold the Eurovan about 2 years ago. I liked it and it was functional but the drivers seat was killer on my back on long trips. I was also impressed with it's off road prowess:p I took it on some trails near Mammoth and outside Bishop and it did great. Probably not good for the transmission though, maybe a good thing I sold it when I did.:D

Too true. I built and supported viper race cars and we ran mobil1 in those engines and changed it after every weekend. The shit still looked brand new even after countless hours of running @ 6000 rpm. Mobil1 is good for at least 5k, if not more.
Typed after a good day of wine tasting......

I usually wait until it looks disgusting, and then wait another month while i procrastonate (SP?) about doing it.

Read something about why it turns black, not 100% sure of its validity so if some one knows set me straight.

"Since propane has such a low carbon content, motor oil never gets dirty which increases engine life. The oil does still need to be changed, though not as often. Spark plug life is dramatically extended. Also, you cannot "flood" a propane engine. When a gasoline engine "floods," raw fuel enters the cylinders, washing past the rings and into the oil, also wetting the plugs. Propane carburetion automatically compensates for altitude changes, saving carb re-jetting and computer re-learn." (from http://www.gotpropane.com/p3.html)

This could be complete bull shit advertising from Got Propane, dont know.

I recall your red EV in the for sale section. I thought about giving you a call but maybe it's good I didn't-LOL.

It's too bad they never brought over the EV Synchro Tdi. Here's a newer T5 4motion with portals by Seikel:
