Now for something way OT. I went for a hike today and brought along my Yasue 2m. Since I am a HAM rookie I was blown away by the reach of the WIN System. Australia, Japan East Coast, Alaska etc.... Also the Catalina repeater seems to be a good one to remember for the Southern California mountains if there is ever and emergency. No PL code and usualy someone listening. It took me awhile to get on board with the HAM thing but it's worth the small effort to get the licence. Someone gave me a Yaesu FT-7800R for free last week and I now have it installed in my 130. Now I just need someone to talk to on trips.

I am very much a rookie as well and have pretty much stuck with vehicle to vehicle use. I haven't tried using any of the local repeaters but if I wheel with Ho Chung more I probably will.

Also, upgrading my license to HF privileges would be nice. I have no excuse since my truck has the ICOM 706.
