Chapman and I went on an epic trip today. I'll tell you all about it...
It started with me meeting Dan at a local shop where he was selecting items for his shirt business. While waiting for Dan I elected to walk to the nearby 7-11 were I bought a Mountain Dew and two glazed dounuts, of which I would only eat one. The salesman at the shop gave me a pen with his company name on it after Dan was done with his business. I felt special. We then proceeded to the local Sheetz store where gasoline and beer was purchased. We then proceeded to drive 25 minutes across country, by cross country I mean country paved road, to the trailhead. We then carefully navigated our way up the rutted and rocky terrain and even at one point I became stuck against a rock and I became concerned until I realized my locker was not engaging so I repositioned and upon the next attempt cleared the obstacle with no issues. We then stopped and sat on the ground while we consumed beer and talked of a mystical place called MAR and TDI engine swaps...When we felt rested enough we continued on coming across water obstacles that nearly got half our tires wet and slashed some mud on our fenders. I then stopped to collect myself and urinate on the side of the trail. At this point with only 6 or 7 hours of daylight left and at least a mile to cover we went into a panic. Neither of us had brought a roof top tent and I only had one somewhat stale dounut and a mini pack of M&Ms to keep me nurished through a cold night with lows in the 60s. I don't think I need to explain our concern any further. With only 5 1/2 to 6 hours of daylight left we made it off the trail onto the paved road. We then made our way North to the Reeds Gap where I had to put my truck in second gear as we went down the mountain to avoid colliding with the jeep in front of me who's driver was riding the brakes. This was the high point of the adventure let me tell you. We then stopped off at a local "pub" where we sat at the bar and ate and drank local beer while watching the food channel, which was muted, and keeping an eye on the cute young lady bartending. We then started the steep climb up Rt. 151 to a fellow Dwebbers house. We managed to miss his driveway and then had to complete a complex U-turn. Upon arrival we again talked about this MAR place and TDIs. After playing with the dog and talking about kitchen design we made our way back to our side of the mountain. Not before Dan stopped and urinated in the driveway though.
If this isn't an epic trip for the history books then I don't know what is....
