In our boot camp, we had officers shoot off the leftover rounds. A particularly unloved colonel decided to hip-shoot an AK-47 - he almost fell over backwards when he let it loose on full auto. Quite a few chuckles.

Exactly. They seek out soft targets. Curiously, they've never shot up a gun show or a police station.

While maybe not extremists as in the religious sense, there have been quite a few incidents where police stations have been shot up by individuals attempting an active shooter type of incident.
