The info I'm finding from the BMW guys, who use the same 029 sensor insert as us, is that you can get a F 00C 2G2 032 insert from a VW MAF and swap it into our housings and it works. The only difference is the 029 has pins to secure the connector, the 032 is missing the pins. The connector fits, but is only somewhat secure. Some are running just with the friction from the pins, some are tie strapping it down.

I think the 032 part comes in a MAF for a 99-2000 VW Golf 2.0, and in fact is quite cheap due to a class action lawsuit. Apparently they actually sued because the sensors fail so often, and they were making so much money on it, they dropped the price.

I found a cross-reference somewhere, and there are no cheap MAFs which use the 029. The 029 is used in all BMW's, Porsches and Rovers.

EVERYBODY uses that sensor insert, but, beware some of the manufacturers and be sure to get a warranty on it. Some of the aftermarket units are fine, but some of them not so much.

The genuine Bosch parts are sometimes available, but they are not as inexpensive as what Musky said-or at least, they weren't the last time I bought one. Also, be aware that some of them are held in by five-point screws.

Rob is actually correct in that there was a law suit over the failure rate on these and thats why they were so cheap. I am not sure if thats still the case?

I also have a VW/audi part numbered MAF in my TDI bug and the last one of those I bought was under $100 as well.

Like I said I havent purchased one for a DII in awhile so I am not sure what up with them now.

I don't doubt that is the case. I was buying cheap ones by the handful when I was at Vorderman's until they started coming back by the handful!

We went back to buying Bosch units then. I didn't know I was getting fired and didn't think to keep track of who all the vendors were!

I understand Wil Tillery has the best price in the US, but I have to call around because shipping into Canada is expensive.

P.T. yeah, that's what I've been finding, I found some from Beck-Arnley which I know nothing about, another shop couldn't even tell me who made it. He called the distributor, and they didn't even know, just "a white box on a shelf".

No, what I/he's saying is there are real Bosch parts available for cheap for certain vehicles, and they have the same guts as ours. Just need to figure out which one. I thought I had it nailed, but just looked under the hood of a 99 Golf, and that's not it. :(

Ok, I picked up a sensor from a local independent VW specialist. It's from a 2000 Golf GL 2.0L Gas. VW PN: 06A 906 461A, Bosch PN 0 280 218 002, it should have the Bosch OOC 2G2 032 sensor insert which should replace the 029 insert in our sensor. We'll see how it works out tonight.

It was $150CDN, that's a great price. Turns out he could actually order the actual part for the Land Rover and he's got great pricing... oh well, hopefully this works and it's even cheaper and availability is better. And, these are genuine Bosch parts. Great pricing from this guy, it's cheaper than knock-offs at the parts stores.

Swapped the sensor over, hardest part is the damn tamperproof screws they use. Popped it in, perfect! Codes are gone, runs great, I won't pretend to notice a power difference but it's maybe a bit smoother than before. Drove around town, I noticed the long term fuel trims changed from -7/-6 to -11/-11, not a big deal. :applause: I'll post some photos up later, but it's pretty much plug and play. $150 CDN, local pickup, can't argue with that.
