I had a guy wanting to buy some stuff for around 500 dollars. He said he didn't have a credit card and can he send me a cashiers check. Sure, no problem. He sends me a cashiers check from PNC bank. I drive to PNC bank and say I need to cash this. No, they can't cash it. Why not? It's certified funds from your bank? Well there have been problems with forgery. I know, that's why I brought it here first place. Look it up in your computer. Sorry we can't do that, you should call the branch it was purchased at and maybe they can help you. I text the guy and get the number for the branch where it was purchased. "Hi I need to verify this cashiers check that was bought at your bank" Is it blue with red letters?" "Yes, would you like the number?" "No we can't look it up by the number, you can deposit it and it should clear in a day or two." "If that is what I am supposed to do what is the difference between this and a regular check?" "Those funds are certified." "So you are certifying this check as being valid?" "Oh, no sir, we can't do that." I hung up and called the the guy to tell him he got to wait a week for his check to clear and he should change banks.
