Where are you moving to?

Not too far away. Overland, MO which is just outside of St. Louis and less than 3 miles from work. wooohoooo! My next move will be out of this state though. I like MO, but it's a bit more flat than I had hoped. I want to be closer to nice views of mountains. Maybe northeast TN.

LOL, just decorative burglar bars on the windows. It's a St. Louis thing. They don't call this one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. for nothin'! My house is the only one on the street with them. Must have been an older person living here at some time during the "white flight" period of this city's history

You got a deal!

Hoping that a friend who's girlfriend kicked him out will want to rent it. That would be ideal as hell!

Worrying about what to do with this house is taking away from some of the joy of the new house. It reminds me of my last house in Tampa before I moved to The Lou. And I loved that house so much. Great bungalow style, it's not a Craftsman bungalow like my Tampa house, but pretty close.

Jen, remember....the best defense is offense. Tigers, lions, they're good and all, but motion detecting flame throwers are where its at!

How cold does it get in StLouis? - You might need Siberian tigers.

According to the Farmer's Almanac, we are supposed to get REALLY cold this winter. But since I like to be different, maybe I should consider a Yeti or two. A little harder to find true, but I feel a Yeti would be more bang for my buck and they can tolerate the cold.

Good luck. Check your insurance policy as most only cover for 30 days after the house in vacated.

Insurance for an unoccupied house is outrageous. When my rental was empty, I took the chance and didn't insure it.
I'm afraid that sufficiently strong hardware would be more expensive than the house. Crankheads have all the time in the world to get in and do their damage. Don't forget that there is also a really good chance you would be held responsible for any injuries to thieves as your unoccupied home is seen as an attractive nuisance, even moreso given the economic conditions.

Put up a sign that says something to the effect of "No trespassing. Owner not responsible for any losses or damages incurred while on the premises"

The sad truth is that any money you spend on "securing" your house will be money wasted in a place like your 'hood. Assume that your house will be ransacked and be pleasantly surprised if it isn't.

Get yourself a GPS system, STRONG tesla coil, a robot on tracks, motion detector system, night vision goggles with IR and Gamma tracking, pepper spray nozzle with 6oz of applicable agent for close proximity defense, solar powered system, and a pre-recorded loud speaker system capable of delivering a warning prior to defensive strategy.
Assemble all together and you have a robot on tracks that will regenerate it's batteries, follow a track system via GPS, sense anything within daylight or nighttime, has an audible security system as well as a close proximity shock and spray deterrent and will shock the crap out of anything with a high powered TESLA coil. What more could a girl as for :)

Add a pair of tigers and one redneck with a shotgun and rocking chair on front porch for system backup.

I don't know Brian, that seems little excessive...do you really think I need the rocking chair?
