Hi all,

Twice in the last month some mofo has walked up my driveway, which is around 150' long in a wooded area, and messed with my cars. Once he opened the disco and another vehicle, and stole some stuff (old laptop, gps), and last night at 3:14am he again tried the disco, though this time I had locked it. We live near Princeton and generally people don't lock there cars much.

I saw the guy just by chance, and (for better or worse) my instinct was to open the window of my house and shout out at the guy. He then walked off leisurely. Some pics are on this site if anyone is curious:

My question to all you nice rover folk is this: What can I do about this guy, if he comes back again? Assiming that I am not awake just by chance, is there a system that I can buy that can signal me in the house if the car door is opened? Some kind of wireless alarm system?

I'm installing a tracking device in case he actually steals it, but I want to catch him at it. I'm not a gun person, though I have applied for a firearms license, and I would not hesitate to go after someone if I were armed. But my question is mainly on the notification of such an event if it happens again. I can think of rigging up cabling and such, but want to know if anyone else has successfully rigged up something that will chime in their house.

If he's so calm while you're yelling out your window, what's to stop him from trying to get into your house? Why didn't you go after him? No gun? How about a baseball bat, or even the handle to your Hi-lift?
I like streetwolfs idea. Kill him.

You should dig a Tiger pit and dangle a gold watch over it. Tie one end of the string to the watch. Tie the other end to your cock. When he falls 10 feet into the pit WHAMO! He will be in the pit and you WILL be instantly awake and dragged to the window.

I don't see how it couldn't work.

1) Buy a cheap laser pointer at the dollar store and the next time you see them, point the light at a spot on their body. Chances are whoever it is won't return. 2) Rent a guard dog from somewhere and put it on a length of rope/chain to reach the rear of the car. Let nature do the rest.

If the guy just casually walked away then he was either high or nuts. Can't you get a cheap motion detector that turns on the lights when someone comes up the driveway and perhaps rings your doorbell too? EDIT; I saw the pic, the guy walked right up to a light up house and starts trying car doors??!! I would report this to the police in case the guy is doing this to others, better chance he gets stopped walking along the road at night by them and asked where he is going.

Or a deer slug.

The shotgun in my top dresser drawer is loaded with #4 buck shot. The .357 in my bedside table is filled with hydro-shox. The .38 in my purse (yes, I carry a purse, there is a gun in it, wanna make something of it, huh punk?) is loaded with +P+ hollow points and the 9 m/m in my toolbox has Corbons in it.

For some reason, people don't mess with the trucks in the driveway.

No, I'm not paranoid, just better prepared than most.

Trip wire & a stun gun - honestly I'd be pissed. File a complaint with the local police in case the situation escalates, you'll have covered your ass

Call 911 and/or arm yourself and go out and confront him. He's on your property stealing your personal possessions.

my advice, call 911 and let them handle it. you have video to convict him.

personally, I would let loose 1 or 2 rounds out of a shotgun out the window. fire a shell in the air, then point the barrel at him. he should scoot.

The police got here in 20 minutes from when I called. I guess that would still be a chance to catch him as long as I keep quiet - last time he went to 4 or 5 houses and in all the cars, and eventually stole one of the cars. Its just hard to keep quiet.

A friend recommend shotgun pepper oil shells that imbed the stuff into your skin. (Do you need a firearms license for a shotgun? Keep in mind I live in the republic of NJ).

Are there no alarm techies out on this forum?
