Anyone see a correlation !

History doomed to repeat itself!

Hitler was a mass murdering psychopath who generated a huge army to take over Europe. That part is different.

you are not paying attention. I said offering it was fine, requiring it will not work. Do you need remedial reading classes?

I am not that guy. I said "I think" because I have not read the story. As a teacher I am a little familiar with these types of programs, not an expert. I have voted Republican way more often than Democrat, but I am neither.

the anti-Obama freaks are no better than the anti-Bush freaks were. They rarely move the debate in an interesting way, mostly just rants about the world going to crap. I vote issues, I stay involved, I read.

Both extremes have their kool-aid.

you better go read the story before you start making statements:rolleyes:

This is not black helicopters, this is a draft of our youth.

It will not work because real people are not going to allow them to force service classes if they do not support core academics. Law or not, it will not survive. Please bookmark this thread so that a year from now when it does not happen I will not need to remind you that I was right.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I am not impressed with your grasp of the function of government yet. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and read what I can later. I was working when I posted, forgive me for not stopping the world to read your political post link on a Rover site.

May I venture a guess as to what action you are taking on this outside of vitriol on a car site?

"...It anticipates the possibility of... "

interesting wording in the Opinion piece. It does not say mandate, it says anticipates- laws generally do not anticipate unless referencing possible acts like terrorist attack or the plague. To anticipate the possiblity sounds very black helicopterish to me.
Still reading.

?(1) IN GENERAL- The recipient of a grant under section 121(a) and a Federal agency operating or supporting a national service program under section 121(b) may use the assistance involved, directly or through subgrants to other entities, to carry out national service programs and model programs under this subsection that are focused on meeting community needs and improve performance on the indicators described in paragraph (3).

grants are money offered, may is a word people often use to suggest something less than required.

All the legal gobledegook aside, common sense and experience tells me that if indeed this goes through and there is indeed an out for not participating, I foresee being denied grants or government sponsored scholarships etc if one has not participated. If you don't play the gub don't pay. It just plain doesn't pass the smell test.

edit: personal choice and freedom be damned

I have to wonder why they are waisting the time, effort, and money for this bullshit. I guess Obama is doing the only thing he has experience in. Community organizing. After all if it is not going to be enforced why pass it in the first place?

Obama is a dumbass beyond the pale.

this is old Democrats, the bill is sponsored by Kennedy among others.

similar to the Gingrich period, when one party gains great leverage they swing for the fences until the populace swings the other way.
