Storm Case vs Pelican

Since there are so many Palican and Storm users here, I am curious to know what everyone is using their cases for. What do you put in your Pelican?

Anybody ever used Otter Boxes? I think they only make small sizes though.....
No, but them Beaver Boxes are really nice. They come in all sizes; some are a little too big for my liking, though. Only thing about them, if you leave them closed up too long, they will get an oder. So, from time to time, you've got to wash them out real good with hot, soapy water.

Only thing I've found to be wrong with them, is they are sometimes not up for the job. Sometimes, you need to borrow other Beaver Boxes to suit your task. There is no since in having more than one, as they are very expensive. Some people will rent theirs out.....

I just wish they had a money back guaranty.....

Duh, the Storm Case has a lifetime warranty as well....
never said they didnt, i was just commenting on pelicans, and once again, i know for a fact that they are good on it. could be the same for storm cases, but personally, i dont know. when i was shopping for my pelican over the holidays i didnt notice a great enough price difference between the two as to warranty buying something i didnt know was 100% quality. heck the difference between the two he is looking at is 10 bucks. my advice would be to follow what others have done here and know work, get pelican. but if you want to be different or just really like the storm case for whatever reason, call up pangaea expeditions and talk to nathan, they carry both so he could do a great compair and contrast.

LMAO...remind me to stay away from the Beaver boxes....they seem to be a lifetime of problems.

Ok,
Another vote for Pelicans.
I use mine for sales samples....and will be throwing all those samples across the living room on the next expedition out.
I have various sizes...not sure of the models, but i can look if necessary (I have never been a "check the model" guy - I just use whats practical).
Some of my pelicans have about 80lbs worth of valves/regulators and steam traps in them. I have to admit the handles do get ya a bit on the REALLY heavy ones, but who lugs those things across the Sahara by hand?
I would go with the Pelicans again and again.
Incidentally, I have worked for companies with travelling technicians...very heavy tools etc..and they will not use anything else. They get banged up by the airlines and they always get free replacements. We also ship sales samples UPS across the country in them all the time, and these are pushing the UPS weight limits in Pelicans. With lifetime warranty...you can't go wrong there!!

Seems like I'm the only one with Storm Cases.

Recovery gear
Tools
Spare parts
Spare fluids

And when I get a few more it will be whatever is lying loose in the car.

I believe I had already stated Pelican was good for their warranty. Price didn't come into it all all when I was buying, I would have paid more for the Storm.

Do what others do? Come on be a pioneer, do something different for a change. Don't worry about what others say for putting chicken shit flooring on your rack if suits your purpose.

Something tells me if you call Nathan he'd sell you the Storm Cases. I didn't talk to him but that's were I first learned about them.

Be different... That's pathetic advice. Realize here that using Pelicans is different. Look at the majority of 4-wheelers out there. Do you think they're using Pelicans? Shit no. They're using Rubbermaid pieces of shit or worse. That's far more common than using Pelicans.

My advice? Buy what works. Comparing Storm cases with Pelicans is like comparing apples to oranges, and based on what Mike Rupp said, it sounds like Pelicans are better suited for off-roading Rovers. Combine that with testimonials from others who use Pelicans in similar fashion and I think it's a slam dunk.

Lastly, do you want to deal with the inconvenience of having to do without while sending a fucked up Storm case back for replacement? Warranty or not, you don't get reimbursed for the inconvenience. I use 2-3 of my Pelicans every day. It would be a major pain in the ass to do without during the time my case is in for replacement.

LMFAO.....I completely missed this post!!!! (Although, um, in some way, I wish I hadn't asked)

Outdoor Store I used to work at sold some of the smaller cases for cell phones, etc for canoeing/kayaking....so I wondered.

BACK to Birds and Weather......

This is all true....to meet the LRL classification though....toting your stuff in plastic bags bungee-corded to the roof does not cut it.... (LMAO)
Thank god I don't have any pics of the "car" on my last Moab trip....LMAO...I had two LARGE brown bags strapped to the roof and half a ton of camping gear all strewn across....This was B.D. (Before Disco), where we piled 6ft of crap (enough food/water/camping gear/bike parts/booze etc) for 7 people on the top of 1 unlucky brand new trailblazer (what a POS that was on the trail). Wish I had thought about the pelicans...as they were at home!!

Buy what you like. You are going to be out of either of them IF you have to do a warranty claim. Pelican is clearly UNCONDITIONAL lifetime warranty. Make sure the storm is the same or go pelican-- simple.

Call pangaea and ask about warranty returns and Pangaea/Hardigg and see about resistance to chemicals.

My opinion would be if they have unconditional and chemicals are not an issue, they are very, very similar products.

The advice was in the earlier post. Latches and Hinges and handle are clearly better on the Storm. I'll agree with you on the Rubbermaid shit. Been there done that too, because they cheap and were better than nothing.

Can't agree with you more here, buy what works. Storm Cases work.

Before we jump to conclusions let's see what the facts are.

My testimonials for the Pelican and their warranty service was listed up front. I still got a huge stack of them, I still use them everyday. If I was buying new cases, I will be buying Storm Cases.

Let's see Pelican has been making cases since 1976, Hardigg has been making cases since around 1954, who's got more experience? I also have a half dozen Hardigg cases but they are not the waterproof cases that compete with Pelican. I'm guessing that Hardigg, who has always been a leader in cases, came out with the Storm Case as direct competition for the Pelicans.

Yeah right I had to do without my Pelicans quite a few weeks time and time again before they finally redesigned the latches. Oh not to mention the times the hinges broke! They started sending us extra pins! As Bri says you're going to wait for either of them.

Firstly, I'm curious to see what the Storm cases are made of. If they are indeed polycarbonate and will disintegrate like Mike says they might then I would avoid them like the plague. I've had Militec eat away at several plastics that it came into contact with. I can say with certainty that this is not the case for my Pelicans.

If the Storm cases are chemical resistant, then I say go with what you think looks cooler because both will get the job done. I don't give a hairy rat's ass who's been making cases longer. In my case, I like the look and pedigree of the Pelicans over the Storm cases.
