Chris - if you guys need any additional help cutting trails please let me know! I've got fun toys too like bobcats, F250's, etc. You may remember me I bought a grille guard for my white DI a few years ago from you in Canal Winchester.

From looking at the pictures and video, I get the feeling that mud terrains would be a much better choice than my BFG AT's.

The conditions at the Wilds very with the weather. If it is dry, your AT's will work just fine, with exception to the mud hole in the woods. Then again, we will be cutting new trails to give EVERYONE a challenge.

So just like others my wife saw the pictures of the zebras and stuff in the Rovers North article and said she wants to go to that. My question is will this years even also include a behind the scenes tour of the game preserve as was talked about in the Rovers North article?

This looks like fun especially the video that was posted. However if I drag the wife all the way to Ohio and she does not get to drive around and see African critters. I'm going to have one pissed off little woman on my hands.

The behind the scenes tour on Sunday takes us through some of the Wilds green areas. It ends up at the carnivore center. There is no driving in the actual animal areas with private vehicles. They save that for the bus tours and the private tours.
We will one day do that but the price will be pretty steep.

It's still a lot of fun. We are working to get a price that will include the animal tour along with everything else.

The insurance costs would be brutal. Plus, someone would have to explain why a rhino rolled their truck.

So for all those that have been here before, would it be worth the trip from Maine? I really don't care how easy/hard the trails are, just looking for a good family trip with kids. This looked pretty cool. Anyone else take their kids along? What about the game preserve part? Thanks for any input.

I made the drive from DC, and it was well worth it. My son was 2 and a half at the time, and had an absolute blast, between camping, seeing all the trucks, offroading, and seeing the animals at the park. Oh yeah, and swimming in the lake too. Great times.

So, having never been there before, I kinda sold this trip to my wife as an off road / animal viewing type thing. In your experience, how viewable are the animals from my own vehicle? Is there an actual tour to take in their vehicle?
I'd hate to cram 3 kids in the backseat of my D1 for eight hours for just another off roading trip. I would still go, though.

There are bus tours of the animals, and last year, some of them were visible from where we had dinner on the first night. Also, on the last day, there was a tour of the park, it didn't take us through any animal enclosures, but we did see some, and we stopped near a couple enclosures that you could explore around on foot (not in with the animals, but around the enclosures like at most animal parks).

The Wilds is not one of those drive thru safari type places. The animals at the Wilds are there for conservation purposes and are truly wild. They can and might kill you if you get too close to them. If you want to see the animals, you can either ride open-air buses or air conditioned buses. I would imagine they do not let vehicles drive through because of insurance issues. Yes, it would be awesome to drive through there, but I don't think they are anywhere near ready for that yet.

If you want a perspective of the animal side in further detail, get ahold of an insearchoftheexperience.com dvd and see for yourself. Although, they did let Elias and the guys drive on the animal side.

There is still tons of planning to do for this event yet to come.

I would think it'd be a PR nightmare should an animal get run over by a big mean gas guzzling 4x4, especially as they're a conservation park. I don't really blame them for not allowing trucks in with the animals.
