Received my Amigo a few minutes ago. I plugged her in, got my light sequence as described then the green. Plugged it in my computer and no faults. I wasn't expecting any but you never know. I got the amigos a couple weeks ago wheelin but they reset eventually so only a soft fault occurred. This is a great little tool and will surely help diagnose Los amigos. Thanks Storey!

Ok, well it arrived in the mail today, I was like a kid in a candystore.

Opened it up and headed out to my truck......

.......now this is where it gets extremely tricky:

1. Turn the ignition key to position II,
2. Plug in the Amigo, wait for a green blinking light.
3. Unplug the amigo, turn off the key.
4. Start the truck and drive over the 5-10 MPH to reset the ABS light.
5. Go inside and drink a beer.

The last pic I took with the front right tire lifted off the ground with a floor jack, put it in gear and gave a touch of throttle to see if the TC would kick in and it did and nearly pushed it off the jack.

Read the faults on the pc, had two stored faults for:

022:ECU Gnd or Reference Gnd fault
I'm going to check the grounds on the firewall and do some research. Last time they reset it I had right front sensor and something else.

Works great!

Steve

I'm kinda curious. My OBDII reader says to never plug or unplug anything into the port with the key on. Does this apply to the Amigo as well?

I did mine with the key on - no ill effects. I didn't try it with the key off first, but I will next time.

What??
Never plug anything into the OBDII port when the key is in the second position? That makes absolutely no sense. Most devices in the vehicle do not even turn on until the key is in the second position. Pretty much every one of the Rover diagnostic tool functions would not work until the key was in at least the second position.

No worries, there is no harm in plugging in the ABS amigo or any other diagnostic tool when the key is in the second position or engine running. :)

I think I hate ponies reader states to plug the reader in and then turn on the key and not to plug it in while the key is already on.

I understand, sorry if I came across a bit crude. I think it must have been the glass of scotch.

There is no problem with plugging in the ABS Amigo when the car is running or if the Key is in the second position.

The ISO-9141-2 communications bus in the Land Rover Discovery, is a single wire bus. All of the ECUs are sitting on this bus and they are listening to the traffic on the bus. The ABS amigo simply sends out a wake up request that is addressed specifically to the ABS unit. Then the ABS unit wakes up and sends a response. If the response is correct, the ABS amigo then sends out a series of queries to the fault status. If the fault queries all come back correctly the ABS amigo then sends out the commands to clear the faults. Then finally the ABS amigo tells the ABS unit to stop communications.

There is no harm in plugging the unit into the communcations bus while there is already power on the bus. I suspect that "I Hate Ponnies" has an OBDII reader that requires part of it communications protocol to be operational before the Vehicle ECU has power. It might be a situation where his code reader needs to start up and be ready before the engine ECU is powered up.

From what I have read, some still have ABS even when the lights come on. Does the system actually still work on a DII if the lights are on? Does this tool simply turn off the lights?

Sometimes you have ABS with the lights on, sometimes you don't. Only you can answer the question as to whether or not you have it.

Does this tool simply turn off the lights?

As the previous 70 posts say, it turns them off, and also gives you the codes, read the full thread and links attached.

No more groups allowed. In fact I had to take the ABS amigo off the website for a couple of days just so I can catch up with the orders. The group order killed me.
They will be back on sale hopefully without any further interruption in a couple of days. I bought up all of my suppliers parts and have to wait until some parts are back in stock.

Some ABS faults are less severe than others. It is possible to get the Three amigos and still have ABS. Although I do not believe it is possible to have the three amigos and have any TC or HD.

Update on the amigo tool. I emailed Storey because I could not get my lights to reset and I had no logged codes.

I guess he has lost sleep on this issue and found that his units did not have a shuttle valve fault. So anyone who has purchased one of these can mail them back and he will send out another unit with the added shuttle valve hardware installed.

All his units he is selling now are good to go, just us early birds need to get them updated.

Storey'a a great guy and a great resource. I'm still blown away at his ability to get into the holy grail of Land Rover BS.

Mine just showed up yesterday (special thanks to rmuller for the group buy link). Last summer I got the 3+1 amigos and paid $80 for Rovacom to find it was the LR wheel sensor and the lights came right back. I was finally intending to fix it, then this comes along. The lights have stayed off (for now) and ABS and TC work again, so it must have been dirt/moisture related. Excellent product, half paid for itself first use.

My ABS Amigo reset tool came today. Very easy to use and it did the job of reseting the codes and lights. Glad I spent that money.
