Time for a server upgrade

For those curious, allthough it would be nice to have a $12k rocket ship, we don't really need it to reliably host Dweb. I figure about 2k should get us a nicely configured box that will hold us for a while. I have been looking at the HP Proliant 1U small business servers, which seems like a cost effective solution to me - but I am open for suggestions.

We are up to about $1,300 in donations so far, all those $10 and $20 (and a few larger ones, too) donations really do add up, so thanks to everyone who has donated so far.

You're welcome!

I'm overjoyed that a substantial amount was able to be raised in such a short time. Now, if I could only get a new laptop so I could surf the new server faster and with less frustration:D

You proved all the naysayers wrong with your TDi install-you can stay (pain in the ass notwithstanding!)

LOL, thanks PT --- :)

A little off the donation topic here:

I am in the process of swapping to a 5 speed now, the slushbox isn't doing it for me. Kept flipping back and forth - but I like the manual better 9 times out of 10. Just not liking the $1100 quote for the 1350 *dual* CV rear driveshaft. :ack:

Maybe someone else can build a decent one for less but Jesse @ High Angle Driveline does know his stuff though......

Hmmm, 1310's should be plenty I'd think.

So will the layout be changed or anything? I like the way this forum works... but i guess you get used to anything I suppose.

Not planning on changing they layout much, but I will be installing the lates version of mySQL, php and vBulletin on the new box before it goes to the datacenter. So there may be some new functionality in the forums after the swap.

6 months ago I could have given you an HP dl380 dual Xeon 3ghz, 4gb of RAM and a Compaq MSA1000 with 1tb of disk space. But I sold it. :-\
