finally decided to try and build a good rear cargo setup. there is alot of space to be used in the back of a D1, but i need suggestions/opinions. has to serve a few purposes:

Must be firmly attatched to the floor for use during wheeling.

must securely hold all recovery gear, some tools, and odds and ends. securely = no flying or moving around while offroad

must integrate 1 12" subwoofer while protecting it from damage.

must be lockable for security.

looking for ideas on material to use, style, how tall, wide, deep, etc. drawers or no drawers? carpeted for looks? rhino lined for durablitly? have at it!

I'll sell you one of these, brand new in the box, for 150.00. It's grey.

That looks like the cash drawers we used to sell. What are the dimentions on that?

I'm planing on building one out of Wood this summer or next fall when I have a shop to work in. I did it for my Series Rover and it worked great.

I'm thinking two drawers side by side on the bottom and then two lift up lids for compartments on the top 2-3 compartments should be good.

post, great site. i love the looks and function of those, they are just more than im looking to spend. i might just end up building something like that. however, im a sucker for good music, so my 12" sub has to go somewhere in the back.

chapman, thats a great deal, and those things look awesome. however, im probably going to have to custom build one due to the fact that ive got a sub going in the back.

I like that idea - what did you construct it out of? I'm tempeted to do something similar. Have you removed the rear seats altogether?

I remember someone here posting a picture of their rear storage a while back that looked pretty cool but I can't remember what the thread was about so I can't find it but. I also found this in another post that might help.
This is Steve Rupp's setup.

My Buddy did one almost exactly the same..... Just a little different.... Works great.. not to mention when he folds down the seats it makes for a nice place to sleep!

Has anyone mounted a hammock or cot in the back? Since my second row of passenger seats gets used 1 or 2 times a year I want to take it out (again) and this time, scrap it entirely.

The problem is that the Rover is so bloody short. The only way I've been able to sleep in the back is by putting my feet between the two front seats.

Has anyone done anything like this?

steve's setup is awesome! thats definately the look im going for. im still drawing up some ideas. im thinking a box with 2 compartments with flip up lids, and 3 drawers that slide out. a place for the sub box to sit will be "carved out" in the back left corner of the setup.

ive slept in the back a few times, but being 6"2 i had to sleep slanted to fit. wasnt too bad.

No but I did stay at a Holiday Inn ;)

Seriously though I can remember seeing a post of either a disco or a rangey that someone had done that to - I had a feeling they used the whoa shit handles (grab handles) to connect the hammock to.

mongo, i like that setup. the back is a high ceiling, and thats a great way to utilize the space. not a bad idea.
