And there we have it. This is how you should take care of your dog problem, get kennith over to your place.

All it does is startle them enough to run them off temporarily, which gives me time to leave. Short of killing them, that's the only winning hand a human has to play.

Dogs I handle by just playing a coldly threatening animal using practices they understand. I'm not trying to make a friend, I'm trying to claim territory.

I don't tell people how to do it, because someone might not pull it off properly and could get hurt. I don't give a shit about them, but I don't want to land in court. Depending upon who you call, you'll either get this behavior or cage trap. I don't believe in the traps, because you haven't changed anything by doing it.

Those are for cats, in my opinion, which should be relocated if no owner can be found. It's also the only way to get rid of skunks and opossums, but I ain't going anywhere near a caged skunk...

Cheers,

Kennith

It's a rental property so He won't have to hate me for too long. That's kind of why we're here at this juncture Kenny. I'm afraid that his dog is going to hurt me, my family. or my dog. I give a shit if he hates me.

Think about how much fun this is going to be. Maybe I can get some video.

If that's the case, you can call animal control to sort out the issue. You've got your options, obviously, but I'd spray a human far sooner than I'd spray a dog.

That's just my way, though. It's neither right nor wrong. Morality is a personal construct. :)

...Hmmm. Now that I think about it, if you've got the balls, a plastic suit, and a desire for a complicated bullshit solution, you could capture a skunk, and just fence him in at the edge of your property. No dog is getting anywhere near one of those...

I think that what I'm doing is very good for this dog. I have made a decision to deter him from coming on my land and acting aggressive. This is a farm town and dogs trespassing is a big fucking deal. I would have the support of this whole damn town if I make this dog a stain in my yard tonight. That dogs life would be over for the life of one chicken.

To give you an idea of how important this is in farm country. My wife's uncle took his dog out in the field and shot it when he learned about it killing a couple of chickens on another farm. Told the neighbor it would never happen again and went out and shot the fucker.

How is what I plan to do any damn different than what a skunk does in nature. It's a synthetic skunk. He will hopefully feel like nothing good ever happens in my yard, and stays the fuck out. I figure I get him good one time. Then spray the area he usually crosses into my yard at. Then go out and mark that spot with the stuff every now and then so he remembers me. I don't have time to fuck around wiring my yard with some kind of speaker system. I need a quick fix and something I don't have to revisit all the time.

It's not much different, but it's a more amusing image.

I know what you mean about country living. My little industrial area isn't exactly in town, and I've got property in the country. If you are in an area where the dog could put itself into more jeopardy than you will provide, it is indeed important to send an immediate and entirely clear message.

Riiiiiiiight. No well adjusted, smart dog. Sorry, one of my dogs loves to try to kill skunks. I think you know how i know this. She will never learn. The other? If she smells one she will not even go outside. Thank god we don't have that many porcupine in my neighborhood, she would want to kill them too.

Its a pain, but with the critters around here the dogs are on lead after dark.

discostew, let us know how it goes. I don't think that the bear spray will hurt the dog permanently. And, BTW, if you get a chance to put on some form of eye protection before pulling the trigger it could help. I got a small face of bear spray over spray in the wind and it was pretty f'ing nasty.

I recall a perpetually skunk-smelling terrier in the past. It never ceases to amaze me what a dog will endure.

Maybe shes just always willing to take one for the team so she keeps going after those skunks. Can't let her people get sprayed by a skunk. I'll keep you posted. 3 cans of the same spray used in that youtube video will be here from amazon tomorrow. Gonna see if any of my buddies has a go pro camera or something I could borrow. It should be pretty entertaining as long as I don't get bit.

I don't think its going to hurt the dog that bad either. That pit in the video made it home, and stayed home.

Yup. The first time we were not armed with hydrogen peroxide, Dawn(tm) and baking soda, we washed and washed. Really it just dispersed the smell. Entire house, garage and local area (i.e. our entire property) smelled for at least a week. I buried the skunk about 50 yards. Probably a ft deep, under a big mound. Smelt it forever.

Dog smelled like skunk for probably 4-6 weeks, each time you bathed her, you would bring it up again. Chessie hair is pretty crazy and just holds the smell. The key to getting rid of it is to get that mixture on there PRONTO, maybe 6-10 times within minutes of it happening.... unless its a yard dog, then you just let them suffer. First time she really got it in the face, she was nearly unconscious from the smell (me too), kind of like someone holding your face over burning tires.

I actually have little buckets with small containers of the 3 ingrediates for any cool dog owners in the area, either house warming or emergency. They have saved a few people.

I wonder if we could develop pepper + skunk spray. Capsaicin and Skunk shitpissfunk. 100% natural. Unfortunately if you get any skunk shit on you it's too much hand spray could be dangerous to the user. But, maybe hoard it up and drop it on terrorists. The green alternative to chemical warfare. Nasty shit.

I have an uncle with a German Shepard that kills skunks regularly. She is friends with everyone else, she really has it out for skunks.

I have no use for a pit bull or any derivative. My Brittany spaniel got fucked up pretty bad a few years ago by one. If it would've been on my property I would killed it and beat the owner until the cops arrived. Pit bulls are garbage, yes there are many other biters and aggressive dogs, you don't see that a lab or rottweiler killed a child on the evening news. I see people on the greenyways and in public spaces with those dogs and they are generally aggressive. then the idiotic owners act all but hurt when iI tell them to get ahold of thier dog . I would have no remorse dispatching a pitbullpit bull, bust that dog in the head with an axe handle the next time he tries to jerk you around. I don't think dog spray would stop one, when I rode bikes a lot I used a spray called HALT and it was really effective and had decent stream . Pit bulls are the scum of the dog worlds

Check out the video I linked in the first page of this thread . I like my odds with the bear repellant. I'm with you 100% on the pits . I really like the Brittany, perfect dog breed for us normal folks.
