There is a "media blitz" to sell people on the new census, the media blitz is going to cost 340 million, I would think the census could cost less then that but hey what do I know? The fact they are spending this just on the media has me thinking there is something else going on or its just one huge pay back for the control over the media the current administration has enjoyed.

The Census Bureau today kicked off its 2010 Portrait of America Road Tour as part of a $340 million publicity blitz to increase awareness and allay suspicions about the once-in-a-decade population count.

Maybe they're afraid of getting shot and hanged in Idaho? ( before you flip, I know it ended up to be a suicide. )

Well, I own two firearms, and I'm not giving them to anybody. I'm also not going to shoot at the census worker.

I think the congresscritters are pushing hard to get as much money and projects for their states. The more people, the more money.

They just need to restructure the voting areas before the elections. A shift here a bit of a nudge there and BINGO all of the areas are democratic.

Huh. Strangely, we haven't had a census in like what - a DECADE? And after the last one... who won the elections?

Could be that it's cheaper to get people to mail in the responses (and it's a 10 question form - shortest in long while (history?)), than to have to send people out door-to-door to count?

Trying to convince the paranoid (that'd be you Thom:D) that it's not some vast conspiracy.

DING DING DING DING DING DING DING! WE have a WINNER! That's pretty much EXACTLY why it's so expensive.

And Thom, I'm not giving my guns to anyone. Despite what you may have heard, most Democrats are in favor of the second amendment.

A census taker once tried to test me, I ate his liver with some farva beans and a nice chianti...

Truth be told, I had a census taker on my front porch GRILLING me because I refused to fill in the long form in 2000. Even when I was threatened with an "I'll be back with the authorities" I only filled in the number of humans in my family. Thats all they get this year as well.

Huh?

I ask since the Dems you know must be a different breed from the Dems I know with regards to 2nd amendment views.

After my experiences with the last census, I have no faith in it whatsoever.

At the time, I owned two homes, lived in one, was rehabbing the other. My residence got the short form, the rental, the long form.

I filled them both out factually and then the trouble began. Nasty notes left on the door of a clearly unoccupied house. Phone calls to my home and office. Finally, I was told via voicemail that the census worker ahd amended my response after speaking with my neighbors. All this after I filled it out completely and factually.

Shortly thereafter, I started receiving phone calls from a census taker (same person?) requesting information on my sister who lived next door. It got very heated with my being told it was against the law for me to withhold info from a census taker and my telling this person that anyone could call me looking for info on another person and i wouldn't give it to them. I finally told this woman to stop harassing me and send the "Census police" to get me!

I will only answer the questions I damned well please after that experience. If they want to come spy on me and use flawed data, that's their problem.

I swear to you that I do not look for these situations, they find me!

edit: my sister and I both sold our houses to a Mexican man. I'm sure there are 40 people living there now!

The Lou!
I remember the last census was mailed to me and it was LONG. Hopefully, it won't be as strange as my last doctor's visit asking me if I owned guns.

And yes, I am a suspicious person by nature. And yes, I think it's a waste of money to "media blitz" this. Seems like that $340mil could be spent to hire folks to do the census, you know, all those unemployeed people that need jobs and not hand outs? I know I'm oversimplifying it but it's hard to even comprehend the true value of $340 MILLION dollars.

Well, when you estimate the population of the US at about 300 million... that's really only a little over a dollar per person. Not terribly bad.

Idaho? That my friend was in Kentucky, where there are lots of hills and hollers where any represenative of the government would do well to think twice about going into.
