I've got a blue 2000 SE7 D2, no rear air, 154K miles, scratched and dented all to hell, lifted, 33's, RTE slimline, winch, sliders, and not at all reliable. That's close enough to what you're looking for right? make me an offer!!!

The P38 requires a lot of loving if you want to keep everything working. I didn't have the budget to take care of it like I wanted. However, it was nice and really comfortable. Maybe someday I can have one again and keep it.

I disagree, the only thing different on a p38 is the EAS.
Nothing else has been different or out of the ordinary compared to my D2. BECU issues are all but gone on the 99+ and by watching the a/c and sunroof drains, no water should get in there to ruin it. (and heater core o-rings, but they are a far between maintenance item)

dont be scared of miles on either. a p38 with 75k is going for 12k here, up to 15-16 if its really really clean. make sure you have records, a higher mileage one with good records is much better than a low mileage with none.

Where the Hell did you get this? I have replaced more BECMs on post '99 trucks than previous.

I would never suggest that a person who did not have a Rover-specific diagnostic computer (or a really, really good friend with one) own a P38.

Wow, didn't know the P38s were that bad. I always knew one would be a spring conversion waiting to happen. That might narrow the search to an 04 DII, which was really my preference anyway.

Did some of the 03 DIIs come with the diff lock?

No, the 03's came with a case that wasn't lockable, making them the most worthless of all discovery's for off road. Some of the 03's also had "grenade pin" oil pump that was biding its time looking for a reason to explode. If you have enough coin to buy an 04 then thats probably the way you want to go. I disagree with Garrett about early D2's, they aren't in the same ball park as far as headaches go as the p38's. I have had a few D1's and like my 99 D2 I have right now better than any of them. The bosch motor is a touch more finicky than the gems but you just have to know what to look for like all rovers. The 04 D2's main selling point is the 4.6, cable locking center diff and the fact they had most of the Abs stuff ironed out by then.

Sweet!

No rush to buy on the DII. In fact the more I hold off the better equiped my RRC might be!

PM sent.

When one is looking at a DII, it is advisable to crawl beneath it to confirm the presence/absence of the CDL. I have seen many where the transfer case was replaced (some under warranty) and the replacement T-case had the CDL.

ALso, all of the DIIs that I have seen with the aptly described "grenade pin" oil pump were '04s that were outside the VIN range for oil pump TSBs.

As my attorney said, there is a certain amount of accepted risk when one buys a Land Rover.

X2 on the missing diff loc, my 99 was one, i was sad that day i looked.... had to swap a new front output cover.

and x9900090900 on any 03-04 having an oil pump issue, or rings, or rod bearings or anything causing a new motor to be required...

Yeah, we've tried looking at other things, but in the end we still come back to a Rover.

I consider my RRC a "hobby". I've heard others describe their ownership as a love hate relationship. With the RRC and Disco I think they really got it right with a mix of distinctive styling, offroad abiltiy and luxury. It just works for me. This purchase will be my 2nd DII and 3rd rover, so I've got a fair idea of what to expect.

Oh and the $85k RR Sport in the dealership the other day....man that was nice.
