    engine swap questions

Definitely. a good used 4.2 will be a strong motor and the most economical option. If you keep the 3.9 and then rebuild it and sell it you could further reduce your out of pocket expense... Oh, if possible swap the motor/transmission as a unit. The 4.2 has a beefier transmission to handle...

    Garage heater?

those kerosene powered jet heaters can heat things up in a hurry, but they can also make your eyes water! I would be wary of tapping into your home heating system, it would be really difficult to balance the system to provide any type of consistent temperature... not to mention the whole issue...

    EAS Idea

Generally those compression fittings are rock-solid. As other have said, the leak most likely is from your bags. Arnott makes really nice replacement bags that have the ends crimped onto them...

    Autologic Diagnostic Tool For Sale

Hey Drew - is it one of the new style (blue case) or old style (black case)? Obviously the new style hardware has more value. The retail price is still 11-12k for a new one.

    engine swap questions

if you decide your block is okay, consider rebuilding it as a 4.6 - the 4.6 is a stroker, so to go from 3.9 to 4.6 just requires a different crank and connecting rods. There is no displacement difference between the 3.9 and the 4.0 - changing the numbers was a marketing thing Land Rover did...

    URE!2 21-23 October, 2005

After the rainout at MAR, I'm going to give URE!2 a shot - weather should be gorgeous and I think my things will finally have dried out again from MAR by Friday. I'll be driving up Friday morning from Charlotte, if all goes well.

P38: Oil light turns on.... sometimes....

So did playing with the brake fluid reservoir help your oil light, or was Brad right? :) Seriously, when does it come on? At low idle when stopped, flickering on, may be okay. A lot of engines have their oil pressure go really low at idle, maybe yours is idling a little too low.

Having a MARvelous time in Virginia

Yeah, as others have said I think that was fine. This thread was started about the trash filled tent that someone left.

    East Coast

What did you think about the statement about extra charges for passengers being a common practice? First time I had ever seen that (usually just used to paying a per-vehicle use fee), but maybe I just don't get out enough...

    Southdown Sliders

I've had good luck with their front axle guard, steering guard and snorkel. I didn't actually know that they made sliders - but they have a good rep for solid products.

Having a MARvelous time in Virginia

Yeah, the problem is that a bunch of inconsiderate people left all their trash in a pile for the trash fairy to come and pick up. I just don't understand - everybody hauled all that junk in to the site, why is it so difficult to pack it out again? Roof racks work great for strapping trash to.

That really sucks. Whoever did that has absolutely no class. How difficult is it to haul your trash out to the dumpster?

    Tips/Tricks for Head Installation '99 D2

Chasing the threads is key. If you have a bench grinder, a wire wheel on it will make short work of cleaning up the bolts prior to reuse (I keep my grinder set up that way)

service engine light from big tires

I don't think you can do that on a Land Rover. I know people have switched in programmable/adjustable speedometers, and there is also an adapter box that people fit to correct the speedo for different tire sizes. I just use my GPS for speed and don't worry about it. The shift points have...

service engine light from big tires

Yes, but the truck does not know that it is traveling at a higher speed, unless you have changed the gearing in the speedometer pickup somehow. The speedometer just shows the speed at which the driveshaft is turning, not the true road speed. Interestingly, when I put larger tires (33") on my...
