    3.9 Front Cover Removal

Thanks. I got it off. I tapped it with the wooden handle of a hammer while working it off. It took some effort but off it is. Thanks again.

    3.9 Front Cover Removal

The oil pan is dropped. The studs are still in the front cover. That doesn't make a difference, does it?

    3.9 Front Cover Removal

I need to replace my front cover gasket and I'm having problems removing the front cover. Everything is removed from the front cover, dizzy is out, crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer all removed. I have a little bit of movement. I get a mm or so separation from the block. The bottom left corner...

What kind of gun for polar bears?

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. A bear is not thick skinned dangerous game. That is where the need for solids comes into play. With thick skinned dangerous game, expansion must be sacrificed to ensure adequate penetration. In a bear, a heavy controlled expansion bullet will give you all...

What kind of gun for polar bears?

Any handgun is a crappy substitute for a rifle or shotgun for bear defense. It doesn't matter how powerful it is or what it was designed for. The 454 Casull shoots a 300 grain bullet at what? 1600 fps? A 12 ga will fire a slug of twice that mass at 1500 fps. It doesn't take a lot of mathematics...

What kind of gun for polar bears?

I have limited knowledge of military firearms, but I'm guessing shotguns with slugs will be chosen. I don't think the military uses much else that will qualify as good bear medicine. I believe any of the large caliber rifles used by the military come in a platform too unwieldy for use as bear...

    Gauge Pods

Here's what I did in my RRC. I used a cheap mechanical gauge set from Advance, used a hole saw of the appropriate size to drill holes in the fuse cover from my parts truck and then installed it in my truck. It looks pretty clean, if not in an absolutely ideal location. It is still easily...

    O2 Sensor Wrench

Why are you removing them? If they are bad and you're replacing them, there are a number of ways to remove them without a special socket. It doesn't take too much creativity to figure something out. The new ones can be installed with an open end wrench.

Something to build this weekend - portable solar-powered outlet

I'm guessing he could have run it for about another hour. Then his battery would have been dead. He could have spent less on some cheap generator and actually had something that could produce some electricity... or just bought a high ah deep cycle battery to use with his inverter. FWIW, there...

    Home A/C repair question

I guess it might be too late now, but if you read this early enough, make sure you turn the unit off (leave the fan in the air handler/furnace on) so that it thaws out before he comes to fix it. If he gets there and it is a block of ice he won't be able to do much without defrosting it first...

Do I need exhaust bolt spacer

A stack of washers would probably get you by until you can get the spacer. Its my understanding that the spacer allows more tension to be loaded onto the bolt in order to keep them tight. The old style short bolts (RRC, D1) used locking tabs to keep them from backing out. From my limited...

    Hunting Optics

I'd stay away from the low end Leupolds. I don't think there's anything really wrong with them, they just don't offer much for your money. At right around the VX2 price point, you can get an "open box special" Minox ZA3 from Cameraland NY. The glass is pretty much hangs with the Conquest. To my...

2010 Deer Camp and Larger Mammal Season

Really? What about Tikka, Sako, Weatherby, Steyr, Browning. 700s are certainly accurate rifles, but to say they're the MOST accurate out of the box is a bit of a stretch.

    Sig 522

Sorry to deviate from the NFA talk, but I thought I'd mention something. I was all set to put together a 10-22 and ended bringing home a 15-22. For the price, I would not have been able to do much to a 10-22. I'm very pleased with it. I have nearly two bricks through it now without a single FTF...

    Browing/Leupold which scope rings

The VX line of scopes all feature variable powers, so I'm guessing it's actually a 3.5-10x, which is not far off the standard 3-9's that sit atop the vast majority of rifles. That said, I'd be inclined to agree that the 50 mm obj. is not necessary. Most hunting rifles seem to be best suited...

    95 RRC: Should I buy?

$3800 sounds a little high... how many miles? The transfer case is likely a bad solenoid. The heater blower is a few hundred dollars and, from what I hear, a full day's labor for someone who's done it before. I haven't been paying attention to the market much lately, but I'm thinking $2500...
