Went for a few hours. Pretty lame this year. Not many people there, either. Maybe 100 trucks? Highest number I saw was 86. Ran what was said to be the hardest trails and went home. Only saw one vendor display, Rover Bones. Was there a total of less than 3 hours. Only got one picture, which sums MAR up nicely.

The trails were a lot better than last year...both on the property and at the other sites. If they continue to develop, they should be great in 2012.

BTW. Three hours sure wouldn't be enough to see much of what they had...

From what I remember everything on the property around the camp site could be run in an hour or less. Did they improve on that area or did this new property add a lot?

Yeah, you're right, I was not there long enough to run all the trails.

Fucking Christ. The place sucked. Admit it. I was on the trails a total of about 2 hours and I saw all that had to offer.

I drove my truck up that big ass hill at 40PSI in my tires.

On the other side of the property where the other, more muddy, hill was, I did get stuck. My trailer hitch was still on the receiver and it caught me. I winched off and then preceded to drive up the hill.

I was told these were the hardest trails on the property.

I was also told that ROAV failed to mention the off-site trails were guided only, and that the off-site trails were not worth the time. They were saying Saturday that many of the folks were not even going to that property because it was not worth it.

Guided trails? Really?

In all honesty, though, the place was lame. It really was. Not only was it lame, there just was not much going on. One parts vendor displayed, no food stand that I saw, and no dunking booth. Top that off, I was told I was too big for the pony rides.

But really, even the camp areas were lame. I remember when MAR camp sites were fun. People dressed them up a little bit. Flag, banners, disco balls, music, food.....people got into not only the Rover event, but they really got into the themed camp areas, too. They planned this shit out fro months. It's kind of dumb and goofy, but it at least makes it fun. It's like tailgating at the game.

But the camp areas were gay this year. No excitement. People were not in to it. It was kind of lame.

That kind of tells me people are just over it. Even if MAR did have 150 trucks (which I don't think it did), that's still down from the previous year. Worse than that is the fun guys have left. Sure, there are a few still hanging in there, but MAR is not what it once was. The face has changed. It will be years before the East coast ever has their version of the National again.

Ok so I have a question, why is it the only picture I've seen posted of MAR is a guy that shit his drawers full...

My wife looked over while I was looking at that and asked why is that guy wearing a diaper?

Well lets see Chapman's agenda of the last few days

Thursday he almost got me arrested, of course while he was playing golf ( has anyone ever seen this guy work? )

Friday he watched his usual porno while eating watermelon

Saturday, he came to MAR , spent good 30 mins at our camp site, then another 30 in my truck ( asking people if they saw Dan Chapman and people looked like he had 3 heads ) , then he flipped the bird to John Tackley, help a broken DI and then run a trail, and left

I bitched all weekend about trails and lack of attendance, etc. But I did have a good time.

The trails were lacking, but what there were was actually pretty fun. The offsite Esmont area wasn't worth it. Thankfully wasn't the 40 min drive Dan was gloom and dooming. But still not worth it. The trails behind TNT were ok, but damn tight and still very lacking. I did enjoy the trails on the property, especially the trail that led up the little gulley, over the rocks and through the bigger rock area in the middle of the property. But for whatever reason they cut the big log out of the way. That was actually a pretty cool little "technical" obstacle. Seemed to be no reason for removing it. In the end though, ran everything twice by Sat morning and then just hung out. I was waiting for someone to do the Challenge Course up the gulley, but never got to see anyone. That thing was nasty looking.

The lack of vendors onsite was my biggest peeve this year. As Dan mentioned, just Rover Bones showed up with anything, little swap meet, no scotch tasting, no fly casting lessons, only one food vendor. It was a very poor showing in that dept compared to years past.

One thing I do like is the camping area. It really made me want to bring my family and next year I plan to do that. So much open area for the kids to play. The event really has tamed down quite a bit to be a calm, quiet family affair.

Saying all that, I definitely beat up on my truck this year and had fun. I think with lack of different trails, I kept hitting things harder and harder since I had already run it. Drive home was squirrely at times. Unfortunately the cost for what was offered seems a little out of scope. Thankfully I was there from Thurs - Sun, so $120 is a little more easily divided up. But I had a couple friends bail due to cost since they couldn't make it until Saturday morning. $140 onsite payment for 1 day and night was too much to swallow.

I agree with Robbie. ROAV needs to restructure the cost system for daily visits.

Oh and thanks for pulling me out of the ditch in a freshly rebuilt truck I didn't own. :)

not a problem. you know it'll be fun when you come across a couple guys wandering down out of the dark without a truck. :) good to meet you, glad could be there to help. and even more glad that 109 didn't get messed up.
