Spoke too soon. Photobucket isn't cooperating now. I don't know what the fuck is the problem but it won't let me copy the IMG link. Whatever, I'm in the Salty Dog Saloon. Going to pound some Jack Daniels and Coke until I get tired. Going to try and sleep on the "beach" tonight. Most fucked up beach I've ever seen. Nothing but rocks! No sand!

It isn't gulf shores for sure

Going to be on the Kenai river tomorrow then anchorage to drop of kids at airport. How long will you be in Homer? Go to Fat Olives for lunch. Great eats and wine

If it's an adjustment problem and not a problem with the switch itself it's more likely rotational adjustment of the switch and not the cable. When you have the shifter in reverse does the R appear next to the odometer on the instrument panel and does the red light next to the R on the shifter light up?

I ended up leaving Homer bc of rain. Drove all the way back up to Wasilla, go to park, take shifter from D to P and M&S start flashing.

Yes the R appears when in Reverse. Yes the red lights on the shifter light up when in R.

Get back to me when you wake up. It's like 12:30am here now. You can call or whatever way you want.

Thanks

Also, this time it threw that same code, plus this time the SES came on with it. Plus, I've noticed that it shifts real hard into R, when the lights are flashing.

If the R indicators are working then I don't think my adjustment idea will help because the objective of the adjustment would be to get them to illuminate. Sounds like it's time to head back down to Anchorage and go see Far North Rovers to have their used XYZ installed. If they have the right equipment (e.g. TestBook) they can read XYZ outputs. Did they do that when you were there yesterday?

Here is the RAVE description of the effect of a P0705 code (XYZ switch incorrect outputs) - Maintains current gear in low range, limp home mode in high range. Shift pressure to maximum, harsh gear shifts/engagement. P0705 illuminates both M&S lights and the SES light.

If you do get the FNR XYZ installed keep your old switch to rebuild when you get home and keep it as a spare, or reinstall it and rebuild the other one and have it as a spare. I keep one in my glove box.

Although they all look the same on the outside I've heard there as many as four versions of the XYZ internals. I've seen two different ones personally.

I need to know if this a simple swap out? Bc Far North says they can't get to me for two days.....

It looks like 3 bolts and a plug. So I don't need them except for re programming if that is required?

Sorry, I've been offline for a few hours. No programming. No tool required either. If you read my LRF post I linked earlier it's all there - 10mm and 13mm wrenches, and probably some kind of small scraper like a pocket knife and maybe some sandpaper or a pot scrubber.

OK after some help from Discostew and Mike in NC, I've had the alternator tested really well and I'm confident that it's gonna make it at least for Calgary. My instincts are telling me that this problem has been related to me using a dual output 750w converter. I'm thinking the Land Rover electrical system doesn't like having 5 to 10 Amps being drawn on it. So I have left Anchorage and we are headed towards Tok, AK for tonight, and eventually Calgary in a few days. I'm going to head back into the Yukon to Watson Lake and then head south on 37 through the center of BC. I have a spare XYZ switch waiting for me in Calgary at an indy shop.

I made it all the way down the Cassiar Hwy 37 to Kitwanga, BC. Beautiful drive. Very remote. Black Bears and Moose were everywhere. From the 37/Hwy 1 Junction just west of Watson Lake all the way down to Hwy 16, I had zero cell signal. Like 12 hrs straight. Only went through 4 "towns". They don't have cell phones I guess.

Good news is that I've had zero M&S Limp issues since I left Anchorage. Will be in Canadian Rockies today/tonight.

Do Canadians eat slugs? I thought snails were a Frenchie thing. Or you talking about the shotgun variety... in the army we called those knock knocks, as in door openers. Guess they work well for bears huh?
