Awwww!!! Two apologies in one post!! That's soo Non DWeb ;) I might get the old body style 1996 MB S500 (that is very Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed = Classy and timeless). Not in a morbid way but she had such class (Jackie O comes to mind too) anyways..OK you get the idea.

This is actually Alyssa...

We got the BMW so we would have something reliable and really nice, that I would enjoy and Ron would enjoy. It ended up being a nightmare with more problems than any 10+ year old vehicle we've ever owned-- and now has had TWO fires. Unfortunately, neither of us like the MB E320 (too mushy), Ron won't get an Audi, I can't stand Lexus, Acura, Infinity, and the US doesn't produce anything I'd like to buy. The X and S Type Jags are just ugly and disguised American cars, and the XJ is a little too $$$. I love Volvos, but they are a little too "family" for us right now. I would like to get a used new RR, and hope that would be the direction we go, but the darn things aren't depreciating that much, so they are still way up there in price. Neither of us fit in a Discovery II or a Freelander, so we've never gone that direction. Ron doesn't fit in a Boxter, which would have been a great choice. We looked at the new 911, and I have to admit I really like it, but the dog won't fit comfortably, and neither will any luggage. I didn't have enough leg room in the old 911. While that would be really nice, it just isn't practical (and again, the $$$ is quite high). My requirements are leg room, copious lumbar support, heated seats, CD, room for the dog (but I'm ok with a rear seat that people can't fit in, since we rarely have people in the back), comfy for a long trip, and room to fit luggage for a trip AND the dog at the same time). I would really LIKE navigation and a sunroof, but I could live without. Ron's recently gotten on this kick that he doesn't want a new car, only old cars that have already depreciated so much they will barely change in value. I'm sick of driving old cars and want something nice, luxurious, and new.

This is a gag, right? The dog won't fit in the 911? You've GOT to be pulling our collective leg!!

5speed,

Porsches retain value better than nearly any other high end car.

Ron,

The E39 M5 ONLY comes in a 6 speed manual. There is no other option.
D'oh!

No, it's not a gag. We have a 90 lb. golden retreiver, and there is a giant hump in the middle of the backseat of the 911. It is really small for her to fit in if she is in the back-- too small for her to be comfortable. She goes everywhere with us. She needs to fit in anything we get. Plus, in that car, we could fit luggage OR the dog, but not both.

I mean the whole thing. Comes off as pretty self-absorbed.

Utahdog feels for the Poor dog. Has to sit in a 70 thousand dollar car like that. Shamefull, just shamefull.

Funny thing is you know the dog could give a sh**! All it wants is to be part of the pack...

Hmmm...Part of the Pack. Irony

"ron I am in the car busines and i hate daydreamers (time wasters)"

Ah, makes sense. ONly a dealer would ask that ridiculous amount for a Z3. You are an crack if you think you can get 13k+ for the 97 Z3.

You are also not doing your job right. I have seen sales people with your attitude lose so many deals. The question is not IF I am going to buy something it is what. Alyssa and I average two cars a year we buy.

You would be suprised the number of new range rovers sold to 16 year olds or guys wearing raggedy clothes and worn out shoes or people who drove a econobox or are a plumber. I doubt you work at Amherst as they would not hire someone like you, or at least that is the impression I had last time I was up there.

You may see me as a time waster and that is fine, me I look for the best deal. You give it to me I buy from you, if not, well then I wasted your time.

Ron thinks law school has nothing to do with it other than I have the time to think about this crap more. :)

Yes Puppy does not fit in the 911. Well unless it is just me and puppy. Yes I know the difference between a boxter and a 911. The boxter my head sticks out the top :)

Amherst...or Neptune?

Ron a man in the know like your self should know that a 2.8 with less then 60 k on it will bring 16k or more at a dealer. I have to get my truck ready for MAR. so good luck with your new ride. and ill keep my eye open for the kids with 70 k that want a new RR

Main Line :)

I don't know what dealer would be able sell it for 16k, wholesale is 8-9k, I buy cars at wholesale.

I guess that is the difference between you and me, you need to sell things at retail, I buy at wholesale.

Have fun getting the truck ready. I recommend a snorkle with the weather we have been having!

I must give you credit, Ron/Alyssa, you pose this intolerably arrant yuppie riddle with a comical self-deprecating innocence.

Which Porsche will my golden retreiver fit into? I like the Bentley but not the leather?

I'm surprised no one else has jumped on you two yet, despite this being a Discovery forum.

While I cringe as my generation descends back into this Eisenhower-esque complacency and opulence, I can only applaud the solemnity of your efforts to parade such inanity with such little pomp.

Here's to a Huxley's brave new world...
