Re: Decently Priced Field Watched
The Shinola and Filson watches are nice but I'm not going to drop $500 + on a quartz movement watch just because it's 'assembled' in Detroit. If I spend that kind of coin it's not going to be on a watch I'll be wearing in the woods
That's why you pick them up on sale for $350.
They do a lot here making those things. The wages and working conditions are outstanding for the area, and it's not all "bolt it together and go". People get a fair amount of experience working with the movements, as they do actually
assemble the movements from Swiss-produced parts.
It may seem a bit like busywork, and it essentially is, but it works out for everyone. You can't bitch about manufacturing going overseas if you won't support various attempts to bring even small activities back to our shores. It costs more. That's just going to happen. The price goes up, and I'm glad some are willing to pay it.
There are American-Made parts in there, as well as imports from Europe, and bits you just can't get anywhere else within reason are likely sourced from the expected nations. The Filson models use more U.S. produced parts, such as the solid leather bands.
Ragardless, it's a nice product, and it's oozing with style. Quartz never stopped anyone from buying Movado...
